Transformers

The Transformers toyline debuted in 1984, when Hasbro partnered with Takara to introduce transforming robot toys to Western markets. Many of the original Generation 1 (G1) Transformers were adapted from Takara’s Japanese Diaclone and Micro Change lines and given new characters, names, and identities. The toyline was supported by the Transformers animated series and Marvel comics, establishing the story of the heroic Autobots and villainous Decepticons in their war for Cybertron. The combination of transforming toys and an extensive fictional universe made Transformers one of the defining toy franchises of the 1980s and created a collecting legacy that continues today.
