1984 Transformers G1 Ironhide is one of the original Autobot Cars, transforming into a red Nissan Sunny-Vanette Coach SGL. Unlike most Transformers, Ironhide splits apart during transformation: the rear section becomes a battle platform, while the remaining vehicle body forms his distinctive robot mode. The platform includes a raising missile launcher and front-mounted Static Laser Gun, giving the toy multiple display and play configurations.
Ironhide’s mold originated in Takara’s Diaclone line, and its human-operated design is especially visible in the toy’s cockpit-like robot mode, which differs dramatically from Ironhide’s animated appearance. The same mold was also used for G1 Ratchet. Vintage G1 Ironhide remains a unique and historically important Transformers figure thanks to its unusual transformation, Diaclone origins, and status as one of the original 1984 Autobots.
