1986 Transformers G1 Hot Rod is an Autobot Car that transforms into a red, orange, and yellow futuristic race car. He comes with two uniquely sculpted Photon Laser weapons that fit in either fist, while one can mount in the vehicle-mode engine block. The original release features unpainted die-cast metal feet, which were changed to black plastic on later versions.
Hot Rod was one of the first Transformers toys designed specifically for the toyline rather than being adapted from an existing Japanese toy, and his design originated with Floro Dery for The Transformers: The Movie. Early prototypes used pink plastic to better match the animation, but the production figure was changed to red, leaving pink-backed stickers as a remnant of the original color scheme. With his major role in the 1986 movie and numerous later reissues and redecos, 1986 Hot Rod remains one of the most recognizable vintage Transformers G1 figures.
