1987 Transformers G1 Hot Rod Targetmaster re-releases the original Hot Rod with his Nebulan Targetmaster partner Firebolt, who transforms into a powerful weapon. The figure was retooled with larger 5mm-compatible fist and engine-block ports to accommodate Firebolt, while smaller thigh stickers replaced the original decals that tended to wear during transformation. Unlike the 1986 release, Targetmaster Hot Rod uses black plastic feet exclusively.
An unusual packaging error initially stated that Firebolt transformed into Misfire’s weapon; later production runs corrected the mistake first with a sticker and eventually with updated printed packaging. Targetmaster Hot Rod also has a Firepower rating of 7, compared with the original figure’s 10. As a classic 1987 Transformers G1 Targetmaster, this version is especially notable for its Firebolt accessory, retooled features, and packaging variants.
