Throughout the 80s, interest in action figures and transforming toys were at an all-time high. Kenner sought to marry these two concepts together with their M.A.S.K. toy line (often simplified to just “MASK’). The line debuted in 1985 and featured figures that were roughly 2 inches (5.08 centimeters) tall and vehicles with secret weapons. Unlike other lines with transforming vehicles, M.A.S.K. did not feature vehicles that turned into robots. Instead of cars with robot modes, Kenner made vehicles that became other vehicles or had hidden weapons. We will explore the 10 most expensive M.A.S.K. toys sold online.
The premise of the toy line was the heroic M.A.S.K. team fighting against the antagonistic V.E.N.O.M. team. The full names for the teams were “Mobile Armored Strike Kommand” and “Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem,” respectively. The figures included masks that grant powers to the wearer. The toy line had a tie-in syndicated cartoon, which featured the battles between the two factions.
The M.A.S.K. toy line featured 4 series before its discontinuation. The first three series were largely similar, with few differences. Unlike prior series, Kenner titled the fourth and final series of the line “Split Seconds,” as it exclusively featured vehicles that split into two futuristic vehicles for the included figure and “clone” to pilot.
Decades later, many still view M.A.S.K. as one of the greatest toy lines of the 1980s. Despite its lack of modern media relevance, Kenner’s M.A.S.K. toy line is still looked fondly upon by fans. Because the original line is the only way to get figures and vehicles, it is no wonder why the toys have appreciated in value. Due to this, several of the sets are now considered as the most expensive Kenner M.A.S.K. toys.
Presenting the ten most expensive M.A.S.K. toys that have sold at online auction sites
Though M.A.S.K. made a splash upon its arrival to the toy market, its popularity dwindled, resulting in only three years on shelves. Despite the brief run of the toy, it has left a lasting memory on all who grew up around these unique toys. With only a moment on shelves, these toys are very hard to come by in sealed condition. Due to this fact, they continue to rise in value.
We sought out the ten most expensive listings of M.A.S.K. toys that have sold from online auction sites. To achieve this goal, we utilized archive sites such as Worthpoint. We also only listed the most expensive instance of each M.A.S.K. toy. For this list, we excluded all instances of graded and prototype sets. As we want to highlight the perceived value of individual toys, we excluded any listings for lots or complete collections. Please note that we use our own photos of the products when applicable.
10. MISB Boulder Hill (1985)
No toy line is complete without a central piece to tie it all together. With the release of the Boulder Hill playset in 1985, fans immediately had a base to revolve their play around. Under the guise of being a gas station, Boulder Hill Gas could convert into the M.A.S.K. fortress. The base featured a cell, rolling boulder, hidden turret, and more. While the toy line’s spotlight was on its vehicles and figures, Boulder Hill served as a great tool to recreate scenes from the show and take play to another level!
One of these toys appeared on eBay in excellent condition. The item was factory sealed, though there was various marks and dents across the box. An eager fan swooped in and purchased the item for $799.95 on January 20, 2017, placing it on our list of the top 10 most expensive MASK toys. The item undoubtedly made for an incredible centerpiece to their collection.
9. MISB Thunderhawk (1985)
It’s no wonder why the Thunderhawk was one of the most popular M.A.S.K. toys. With a sleek design for the time, vibrant red and purple color scheme with yellow accents, gull-wing doors, and more, it was impossible for this toy to fail. The “fighter jet” mode was icing on the cake, allowing fans to go from racing on the floor to soaring in the sky in mere moments.
A sealed copy of the Thunderhawk in incredible shape hit eBay, and fans immediately had their eyes on the item. The spectacular piece was reported to have sold on August 17, 2018 for $1,100.00, marking the 9th most expensive M.A.S.K. toy sold to date.
8. MISB Outlaw (1986)
The Outlaw managed the impossible feat of making a tanker truck look sleek and stylish. V.E.N.O.M.’s truck converted into a massive mobile platform with a mighty howitzer, sure to give M.A.S.K. a tough challenge. The black and chrome color scheme featuring styling stickers for a splash of color had an unmatched air of menace to it. Seeing how the truck dwarfed the included figures upon conversion to the base mode was sure to take any fan’s breath away.
A sealed copy of the behemoth went up for sale on eBay in moderate condition. The box had visible wear across the front and sides, but regardless, it sold for a great $1,199.99 on February 7, 2023.
7. MISB Bulldog (1987)
The Bulldog was another of the most beloved M.A.S.K. toys. The semi-truck could convert into an armored half-track in a fascinating way. The cab would flip backwards, forming a canopy, while the top of the cab flipped further, providing a space for figures to stand on. The chrome bumper could then be folded down while other parts could be flipped out to complete the look. Once transformed, the vehicle truly captured the look and provided a heavy hitter for fans to use in the fight against V.E.N.O.M.
A copy of this toy popped up on eBay in 2023. The tape on the box had turned a deep yellow, but the box was otherwise in great condition. The box had very little wear and managed to maintain perfect a shape. Because of this, the item ended up selling for $1,299.99 on October 7, 2023.
6. MISB Volcano (1986)
While the Volcano may not have been as flashy or stylish as other M.A.S.K. vehicles, it still holds great sentimental value with many fans. The toy featured a battery-powered function that enabled it to drive continuously in a straight line. The vehicle changed from an all-terrain van into a hi-rise tracker. The body of the van split and folded to the front and back ends of the vehicle. The converted vehicle featured an array of weapons, most notably the lava-launching turret that would spin as the vehicle moved forward.
A listing for a sealed copy of this mighty van appeared on Hake’s Auctions in 2021. The box was in great condition, with minimal marks on the package. The sealed Volcano sold for $1,521.26 on June 30, 2021.
5. MIB Firecracker (1986)
Released in its first series, M.A.S.K.’s Firecracker was one of the line’s most feature-laden vehicles. The pickup is labeled to change into a recon truck with a companion dirt bike. While unassuming, the orange pickup still featured some colorful flair, with purple, red, and yellow stripes across the hood and doors. Upon conversion, the body would raise from chassis, the dirt bike would be dispatched, and front-mounted thermal detonators, rear freeze cannons, and an ejectable spare tire could be used to stop V.E.N.O.M. agents in their tracks.
A listing of a MIB Firecracker appeared on eBay in 2023. However, the condition of the box was dubious, as the lister called it both “MIB” and “sealed,” which conflicted with each other. The labeling was better explained in some of the listing’s images, as some of the tape had been broken, but there was sealed tape on each side and the set had not been opened. The box had significant wear, with many scuffs and blatant damage on the cardboard. Despite all of the issues with the box, the Firecracker fetched a price of $1,600.00 and sold August 04, 2023, placing #5 on our list of the top 10 most expensive MASK toys ever sold.
4. MISB Switchblade (1985)
This vehicle certainly made the Christmas wish list for many children in 1985 and 1986. The Switchblade was V.E.N.O.M.S’s helicopter that could convert into an airplane. The vehicle was a deep blue with a neon pink canopy; it featured a very flamboyant and appealing color scheme. The helicopter mode features a play feature where upon pressing a button, the blades would spin around. The transformation was more straightforward than that of other M.A.S.K. vehicles, but it resulted in an incredibly sleek and cool airplane mode.
One of these toys made an appearance on eBay in 2017. The figure was sealed in a moderately worn box, and it ended up being purchased by a fan for $1,700.00 on July 22, 2017.
3. Rhino Rig Fun Tent (1985)
This unique piece stands out amongst the rest. Unlike the rest of the entries on this list, this was a tent for children to play in. Very little is known about this fascinating tent, making it a stand-out piece in a fan’s M.A.S.K. collection! The truck tent had a shape more akin to a postal vehicle than a semi truck, but the tent retained much of the toy’s coloring and detail. The tent featured the truck’s smokestacks firing forward, much like the toy.
One of these elusive tents sprung up on eBay in 2023. The seller listed the tent in near mint condition, with the untouched contents. Due to the condition and scarcity of the product, the Rhino Rig Fun Tent sold on March 17, 2023 for $1,750.00!
2. MISB Rhino (1985)
The Rhino was the undisputed icon of Kenner’s M.A.S.K. toy line. Kenner featured the vehicle in the M.A.S.K. logo, and it was the choice for a children’s tent. The burgundy tractor rig converted into a mobile defense unit while the rear of the vehicle detached into an all-terrain vehicle. Upon conversion, the side of the vehicle would become a set of stairs into the command center and missile launcher, the grill/bumper became a ram, and much more.
A sealed Rhino appeared on eBay in 2013, with the seller stating that the item sat in a closet for 28 years and only suffered from shelf wear. After nearly three decades, the box still appeared as if it had just been taken off of the store shelf! It sold on December 05, 2013 for a round $2,000.00.
1. MISB Laser Command (1987)
Kenner’s M.A.S.K. line featured a special playset. The Laser Command set included the M.A.S.K. Hornet, converting from an incognito set of boxes into a plane; and the V.E.N.O.M. Ratfang, which did not convert into anything. The set was a self-contained conflict, featuring a vehicle for each faction and the leaders of M.A.S.K. and V.E.N.O.M., Matt Trakker and Miles Mayhem, respectively. The toys each contained infrared features where the Hornet could shoot IR lasers at the Ratfang, which caused the vehicle’s front tires, left door, and hood to break off of the toy!
A fan listed the unique playset on eBay in a sealed box. There was minor damage on the corners of the corners and edges of the box, but the box was still vibrant with non-yellowed tape. Due to the desirability of the piece in its great condition, it sold on May 15, 2023 for $3,300.00, making it the most expensive M.A.S.K. toy ever sold!

My vision has always been to reunite customers with their favorite childhood toys and pop culture, triggering fond memories, and reigniting their imaginations. Every day, I work in the “lab” where it’s Christmas 365 days a year. I scour the internet, like when we had the Sears Catalog of yesteryear, for the next great treasure. Then, I await the arrival of the postman as if he were Santa Claus himself and helping collectors worldwide with their versions of Christmas. Every day as a vintage toy buyer is an absolute joy!
