The epic space western franchise, BraveStarr, debuted through a toy line by Mattel in 1986. Following the toy line, a movie, video game, comics, and books released to expand the franchise. Mattel released over 15 million dollars worth of action figures, playsets, accessories, and role playing action toys to stores in 1986. The toy company planned for a second toy line to release but it unfortunately canceled along with season two. The BraveStarr franchise tells the story of Marshal BraveStarr who uses special powers to defend the planet, New Texas. Accompanied by Judge J.B. Judy, the two keep the planet safe from the evil spirit, Stampede, and his sidekick, Tex Hex. This storyline follows through the animated television series but comes to life first in Mattel’s toys. Join us as we go through the action figures, accessories, playsets, and role playing toys released in 1986 by Mattel. We will mention our top 10 picks. Please note that other top 10 lists may be different than ours, this is what we put together as the top 10.
10. Handle Bar
At number 10 on this Top 10 BraveStarr Toys list, we have Handle Bar. The alien owner of the Fort Kerium Cantina assists BraveStarr as his right-hand man. This figure stands tall and strong at 8 inches, ready to defend. Handle Bar comes with two silver discs as well as a kerium nugget. His appearance clearly shows his heroic value through the bright paint colors. The character’s appearance includes bright green skin and bright purple boots, pants, and suspenders as well as bright yellow hair and a clean white shirt to contrast. The gold shiny accents on the suspenders add to the character’s appearance and show his value as a defender against evil.
9. Outlaw Skuzz
Coming in at number 9 on our Top 10 Bravestarr Toys list, we have Outlaw Skuzz. Since this figure includes many accessories and carries his evil persona, Outlaw Skuzz makes our top 10 list. This figure represents the evil prairie pirate character who became a spy for the dreaded Tex Hex. The accessories with this figure include his black hat, nugget of kerium, transfreezer, and neutra-laser. As well as these, Outlaw Skuzz comes with his vehicle- the “Skuzz Bucket” air machine. Outlaw Skuzz stands smaller than most other figures within the toy line, at approximately 4 inches tall. This figure also shows his evil character by the design and paint colors. Outlaw Skuzz’s skin appears a greyish green while his hair and clothing appear a dark grey. The characteristics on it’s face also show incredible detail through a mischievous smile and bloodshot eyes.
8. Marshal BraveStarr
Next up, at number 8 on our Top 10 BraveStarr Toys list, we have the heroic main character, Marshal BraveStarr. Marshal BraveStarr defends planet New Texas against evil outlaws and people looking to steal the valuable material, kerium. This figure comes with many accessories including a cowboy hat, blue vest, two nuggets of kerium, neutra-laser pistol, and transfreezer rifle. Marshal BraveStarr appears powerful and fits in with the New Texas theme as he gets clothed in cowboy boots, a yellow shirt, and other cowboy-like attire. This figure, along with most others within the toy line, stands at 8 inches. This makes the toy line stand out among others at the time being a couple inches taller than most figures. Marshal BraveStarr features many points of articulation as well in his knees, legs, shoulders, and elbows.
7. Deputy Fuzz
This Deputy Fuzz action figure from Mattel’s BraveStarr toy line takes the same design size as Outlaw Skuzz, standing at about 4 inches tall. Although this figure stands at half the height as the other figures, the detail still shows very clearly. The folds on the clothing and hair details add to the character’s personality and bring Deputy Fuzz to life. This figure also comes with a wide array of accessories including a rope, axe, shovel, hammer, spear, cowboy hat, key, miners ring, and nugget of kerium. This figure’s wide eyes and happy smile show his heroic side. Deputy Fuzz also comes with a prairie rocket vehicle. This vehicle, painted with white and bright blue, helps Deputy Fuzz get around and keep watch for evil suspicious outlaws. Because of these, Deputy Fuzz places 7th on our Top 10 BraveStarr Toys list.
6. Tex Hex
At number 6, Tex Hex appears standing at a tall 8 inches. Tex Hex, the main rival of Marshal BraveStarr, shows fierceness and carries many accessories as well as weapons. This figure comes with his black hat, two knives, bandoiler, neutra-laser, transfreezer, and two nuggets of kerium. The bright red eyes, lavender withered skin, yellow teeth, and grey hair show the viciousness and evil tendencies of this character. Tex Hex’s clothing, including his boots, hat, dark green shirt, and bandoiler accessory adds to the power this character holds on the evil side. This figure also features many points of articulation in his knees, legs, elbows, and shoulders for ultimate posing abilities.
5. Skull Walker
Tex Hex’s skull-like vehicle, Skull Walker, swoops down from the air with Tex Hex to attack and then transforms into a walking land vehicle. The vehicle appears entirely black with a tan animal skull-like face. These colors and silver detailing around the horns and eyes add to the evil, sneaky aspect of this vehicle. Skull Walker includes many points of articulation from top to bottom for ultimate transformation, posing, and walking abilities. The vehicle also comes with a nugget of kerium and a removeable bronze shiny saddle. Because of these features and abilities, Tex Hex’s Skull Walker vehicle takes 5th place on our Top 10 BraveStarr Toys list.
4. Stratocoach
Along with Mattel’s incredible action figures for the BraveStarr toy line, the company also released vehicles including the Stratocoach. This vehicle first appears as a simple stagecoach but then turns into a futuristic interstellar air machine. When squeezing the lever found on the toy, the wheels flip underneath the vehicle and the air machine is now ready to fly! The vehicle includes a driver’s seat, door, tail fin, radar console, strong box, kerium storage compartment, side weapon controller, two large wheels and two small wheels, a side weapon controller, three kerium nuggets, a turbo-mule, as well as a neutra-laser cannon. The vehicle appears painted with light yellow sides and brown wheels. This vehicle takes number four on our Top 10 BraveStarr Toys list because of it’s creative design and many additional parts.
3. Neutra-Laser
Here, at number 3, we have the BraveStarr Neutra-Laser role play toy. This toy includes a target mount, infrared target unit, and sighting mechanism. The Neutra-Laser features the ability to make noises as well as using infrared beams to connect with other lasers and toys. This can even knock them off balance with a single direct hit! The toy also includes epic detail through the painting. The toy appears in an entirely dark royal blue with a shiny engraved pattern on the sides. Kids playing with this toy bring the story of the franchise to life. They get to take on the role of one or more of the characters in New Texas from wherever they are.
2. Thirty-Thirty
Marshal BraveStar’s robotic stallion, Thirty-Thirty, takes the 2nd spot on our list. Thirty-Thirty appears painted entirely in a shiny silver with white hair, black hooves, and bright red accessories. Marshal’s horse also comes with a wide variety of accessories. These include a scabbard, briddle, two hangers, harness, left and right rein, left and right stirrup, saddle, and two nuggets of kerium. As well as these, the robotic stallion comes with two saddle bags, a blister cannon, and barrel extention. Thirty-Thirty also stands at 8 inches tall, along with the figures. The epic design is clearly shown through engraved patterns on the saddle, hair, and other accessories. Multiple points of articulation are also featured in this toy to show Thirty-Thirty on it’s hind legs, prancing around, or just posing fiercely.
1. Fort Kerium
This Fort Kerium playset sold as both separate parts and as one combined set. The separate parts include the bank and jail together and the command center sold separately. The bank and jail came with multiple accessories to enhance play. These include a cable release, key, kerium bank vault, kerium microscope, six nuggets of kerium, a vault door, ten fasteners, four connecters, and a weapon. The playset itself appears as three standing plastic buildings. The command center also includes many accessories such as a tower, chair, flagpole, searchlight, six fasteners, left and right post, as well as two weapons. This big three-part Fort Kerium playset makes the very top of our list because of the ultimate play opportunities with the figures and heroic superhero storyline.
