1997 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog – Batman & Robin

Join us on a journey through the 1997 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog, which offered a first look at Hasbro’s latest toys. Some of the toys that Hasbro produced in 1997 included Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Beast Wars Transformers.

The 1997 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog advertised multiple DC-inspired action figures, including those for the Batman & Robin film. Even though this movie killed off the series and nearly all comic book movies for several years, it was still highly anticipated in 1997. Thus, Hasbro expected fans to flock to their offering of toys.

Here, Hasbro presented #28882: Batman & Robin Utility Belt, which provided a full arsenal of powerful crimefighting gear. It included a dart launcher that really shot 2 suction cup darts, an ice saw with retracting blades, an ice claw, and an adjustable belt.

Next, they promoted #28883: Batman Armor Set, which allowed kids to gear up for Batman adventures when they put on this exciting set. It included a mask, a cape, a chest plate, and a dual-stream water blaster.

There was also #28884: Batman & Robin Gauntlet Communicators. These were micro-sized walkie-talkies, just like the ones Batman used in the movie. Hasbro designed them with cordless phone technology. Meanwhile, fans could strap it to their wrists for on-the-go communications. Thus, fans could press buttons to send messages and hear real movie sounds. This set included earphones and batteries.

The Catalog next featured #28906: Batman & Robin Road Race Set. With this set, players enjoyed race-and-chase action with a 2-level, “figure eight” race track. It had hand-held controls and “Batman & Robin” background scenes. Moreover, it included 2 vehicles. While the set required 4 “C” batteries, they were not included.

There was also #28934: Batman Roleplay Gear Assortment. Hasbro invited fans to strap the Bat Launcher on their arm and then fire 2 foam missiles. Meanwhile, the Bat-Tazer had pump-action power to fire “Bat Signal” projectiles. Both of these toys were realistically styled movie weapons.

Finally, they highlighted #28907: Batman FM Radio, a real FM radio in a Batman figure. The built-in clip allowed fans to attach it to belts for portable music. This set came with both batteries and earphones.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
