Since Takara originally intended these toys to be a Transformers spin-off, they briefly made an appearance in the Headmasters cartoon series.

This 1987 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog page promoted #5300 Battle Beasts Series I, #5301 Battle Beasts Series II, and #5302 Battle Beasts Series III. These toys were an awesome legion of animal warriors. Each warrior’s BATTLE EMBLEM exposed their hidden strength, FIRE, WOOD, or WATER. While the fire burned wood, wood floated on the water, and water extinguished the fire. So, these figures were a new twist on the Rock-Papers-Scissors game, where chance and element of surprise rule.
These two-inch beasts featured poseable arms. Players rubbed the BATTLE EMBLEM to discover each warrior’s strength: FIRE, WOOD, or WATER. Then, these toys were packaged randomly with two warriors and two weapons per blister card in series I and II. Meanwhile, Series III came packed with eight warriors and eight weapons per box.
