First introduced in 1986, Coleco made a popular Rambo toy line, which featured the hit character played by Sylvester Stalone. While the hit movie quickly made a fortune, it was an R-rated film. Thus, Coleco based these toys on the cartoon series that also appeared in 1986. Characters from the cartoon’s two factions, the Force of Freedom and S.A.V.A.G.E., filled up the toy line’s roster.

Page 26 of the 1987 Coleco Toy Fair Catalog promoted several weapons accessories for the Rambo action figure line. This page prominently featured 0836, the Weapons Pack Assortment. This assortment included a pistol crossbow, a boomerang, a bullwhip, an M16 rifle, an M52 pistol, a Belgian .30 caliber machine gun, a machete, an AK-47 assault rifle, and a Walther pistol.
Then, they presented 0829, the Action Pack Weapons Assortment which included a 24-piece assortment of 0832, 0826, and 0827.
0832 was the .50 Caliber Anti-Aircraft Gun with Tripod which included a tripod mount, an ammo box, a bullet strip, and an info card. It was approximately 5 ½” long and 5 ½” high.
Then, 0827 was the 81mm Mortar with Bipod which included a mortar mount, base plate, 5 mortar shells, and an info card. It was approximately 4 ¼” long and 5” high.
Finally, 0826 was the .50 Caliber Machine Gun with Tripod which came with an ammo box, a bullet belt, a tripod mount, and an air-cooled barrel. This toy was approximately 5 ½” long and 1 ½” high and came with a bonus weapons info card.
Furthermore, Coleco presented 0831, the Twin-Mounted 7.62mm Machine Gun with Bunker. This toy featured guns that rotated and elevated to 45⁰. It included 2 ammo belts, 2 ammo boxes, and an info card. This toy was approximately 6” long and 6” high.
Next, there was 0835, the 20mm Automatic Cannon. This toy included an elevating barrel and a 360⁰ swivel seat mount. It also came with an ammo belt, 2 molded ammo boxes, and an info card. It was approximately 12” long and 5” high.
Moreover, they promoted 0837, the Action Pack Weapons Assortment, a 24-piece assortment that included 0825, 0831, and 0835.

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Coleco handed out catalogs to toy fair and other event attendees like dealers and retailers. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they were often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Thus, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Coleco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the Sectaurs, who combined insects with superheroes, appeared in multiple catalogs. Likewise, Coleco produced and promoted the Rambo toy line, which focused on the cartoon series. There were also many vehicles and toys from the Starcom toy line.
Coleco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only in these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
