The Star Wars Ewoks

The Star Wars franchise has captivated audiences worldwide for decades, producing memorable characters and storylines and a vast array of collectibles that continue to thrill fans and collectors alike. Among the most iconic Star Wars toys ever created, the Ewok action figures stand out with a charm of their own. The Star Wars Ewoks are short, soft, and cuddly beings from the forested moon of Endor in the fictional Star Wars universe. These creatures helped Luke, Leia, and the crew defeat the Empire. They are adorable creatures, making them perfect for children. But when did these precious woodland warriors from the planet Endor first make their way onto the shelves?

The First Ewoks Action Figures

When ‘Return of the Jedi’ hit theaters in 1983, fans were introduced to the Ewoks, a race of small, furry bipeds that quickly became popular among audiences. ABC later created an animated series Star Wars: Ewoks, in 1985. Kenner based their Ewoks line off six Ewoks from the show. The action figures were available in 1985.

The line featured the most popular Ewoks, such as Wicket W. Warrick, Logray, and Teebo, among others. These Ewok figures were particularly distinctive due to their smaller size compared to the standard 3.75 inches of most action figures of that era. They also boasted removable hoods, making them some of the few action figures with removable clothing at the time.

The Ewoks Legacy

Kenner’s Ewoks action figures swiftly became hot items, coveted by children and collectors alike. Their success extended beyond the initial 1985 production year, with additional Ewok characters being introduced throughout the mid-80s.

Over 30 years later, the Ewok action figures retain a special place in the hearts of Star Wars fans. Their charm transcends generations, becoming a symbol of the universal appeal of the Star Wars franchise. Kenner’s Ewok action figures, first introduced in 1985, serve as a testament to the enduring allure of vintage toys, making them sought-after items in the realm of toy collecting. For Star Wars collectors, it’s not just about owning a toy; it’s about holding a piece of galactic history in their hands.

Bio: I am the founder and owner of Wheeljack’s Lab pop Culture and Toy Shop. My vision has always been to reunite customers with their favorite childhood toys and pop culture, triggering fond memories, and reigniting their imaginations. Every day, I work in the “lab” where it’s Christmas 365 days a year. I scour the internet, like when we had the Sears Catalog of yesteryear, for the next great treasure. Then, I await the arrival of the postman as if he were Santa Claus himself and helping collectors worldwide with their versions of Christmas. Every day as a vintage toy buyer is an absolute joy!
