The Ten Most Expensive Predator Collectibles

20th Century Fox introduced the world to the Predator in 1987, with a film set in the forests of Central America. By combining the popularity of Arnold Schwarzenegger with the imagination of Stan Winston’s designs, the Predator quickly became a hit. While the original film received a sequel in 1990, the theaters were not where the Predator made the strongest impact. Instead, Dark Horse Comics became the source of most Predator content for decades.

These alien creatures, called Yautja, would come to Earth to hunt down the most dangerous prey around, humans. They particularly loved to hunt in hot climates filled with violent conflicts. This is why the first film featured a hunter who came to the Central American rainforest to hunt soldiers and guerilla fighters.

While they had a general humanoid shape, many differences made them stand out from native Earth creatures. First, their average height far surpassed that of a human. They also had yellow or green-tinged skin as well as dread-lock-like tendrils. Behind their masks, they hid a pair of tusked mandibles that surrounded a fanged mouth. This all combined to make a distinctive creature design that many fans love.

Presenting the Ten Most Expensive Predator Collectibles that Have Sold at Online Auction Sites

With over three decades of Predator content, the franchise has maintained a strong following. Fans love to hunt down various incarnations of this creature, from statues to artwork. There are even imaginative takes on the franchise like Kenner’s 1990s toy line. Moreover, some lucky fans have received the chance to collect memorabilia from the movies, like outfits worn by the actors.

Understanding the franchise’s draw, we sought out the ten most expensive Predator collectibles that have been sold on online auction sites. To provide as accurate a list as possible, we narrowed down our results. This meant that we bypassed any auctions that seemed suspicious or potentially fraudulent. While those auctions may have been legitimate, we had no means of verifying them. We also only considered the most expensive listing for each item.

We also decided not to include any listings for lots or complete collections. We want to highlight the most expensive instances of individual items. While it is possible to hit high sales numbers by grouping products, it is harder to determine the value of the items within the collection.

10. Sideshow Collectibles Original Predator Maquette

Sideshow Collectibles Original Predator Maquette

Renowned special effects creator, Stan Winston, and his studio were responsible for creating the iconic appearance of the extraterrestrial Predator. Winston began imagining the hunter while working on the ALIENS film. This led to him refining the design so that Kevin Peter Hall could bring it to life on the silver screen. While there have been multiple members of the Yautja species introduced to film, toys, comics, and other media, none are more iconic than the original design.

Decades later, Sideshow Collectibles set out to create one of the most impressive screen-accurate depictions of the Predator from the 1987 film. To achieve this feat, they joined forces with Stan Winston Studios. The result was one of the most desirable and valuable collectibles for the Predator Franchise.

Sideshow Collectibles debuted a 1:4 scale statue of the Predator in the late 2000s. It featured multiple leather straps and even a fabric loin cloth which helped make it feel more realistic. Following the appearance from the original film, this predator was painted with greenish-yellow skin. Then, they supplied it with the Predator’s iconic weapons, including a bladed gauntlet on its right hand and a shoulder cannon on its left.

Beyond creating a screen-accurate appearance, Sideshow Collectibles modeled this Maquette in a dynamic action pose. Thus, the Predator appeared that it was ready to strike at its prey. They also released two versions, one with the face exposed and another with a removable mask and light-up features.

One of these impressive statues was sold on eBay in 2016. This listing ended with a recorded $3,779.99 on August 07, 2016. The seller noted that the copy was sealed in its original brown shipper.

9. Sideshow Collectibles Legendary Wolf Predator Statue

Sideshow Collectibles Legendary Wolf Predator Statue

Each film has featured a different member of the Yautja species. Some, like ALIENS vs. Predator, featured three or more hunters during the events of the film. In the case of AVP, three young hunters landed on Earth to hunt one of the most revered prey, the Xenomorph. To create a controlled hunt, their species had set up a pyramid in the Antarctic that housed a Queen. These hunts were particularly dangerous, for the Xenomorph hive could potentially overwhelm Yautja hunters. Still, they found the right of passage as an honored tradition.

Unfortunately, the hunt that occurred in the early 2000s led to the deaths of the entire trio. Worst yet, one of them was implanted with a Xenomorph embryo. This led to the creation of a Predalien which crashed the Hunting ship. In response to this incident, a new hunter, known as Wolf, landed on Earth to contain the new infestation.

Wolf was a veteran hunter who was familiar with Xenomorphs. Thus, he came fully equipped for the task with plasma weapons, a whip, a shuriken, and the standard wrist gauntlets. By the end of AVP: Requiem, Wolf successfully slew the Predalien, though he lost his life in the ordeal.

Celebrating this hunter, Sideshow Collectibles featured the Legendary Wolf Predator in one of their statues. They designed a realistic 31” dynamic statue with the help of Amalgamated Dynamics Inc. Like many of their other statues, it featured leather parts to make it even more realistic.

One of these 57-pound statues was sold on eBay on November 01, 2018. The listing closed with a documented $3,900.00 final price.

8. Prime Studio 1 – Big Game Predator Statue

Prime Studio 1 – Big Game Predator Statue

There have been multiple companies that have created impressive statues of the Predator aliens from the films. One of the more recent companies is Prime Studio 1, which creates collectibles for multiple genres. While they create many anime-inspired statues, they also dabbled in realistic collectibles for movie franchises.

In the last decade, Prime 1 Studio added the Predator franchise to its catalog. They have created multiple statues and busts of the various creatures from the films. They are still producing more of these statues with ones like the City Hunter Predator and Berserker Predator coming out in 2023.

Around 2019, the company debuted the Big Game Predator, which they based on the cover of one of Dark Horse’s comics. This Predator was the main character of a special 4-issue series that came out in 1991. Prime 1 Studios took the iconic look from the cover of the first issue of this series to create this 27” tall statue.

To make it even more special, the company included LED lights in the shoulder cannon. The statue also featured interchangeable left hands and an interchangeable bio mask. Beyond coming with a stand for the statue, it came with a special stand for the head. Otherwise, it expanded on the comic book art to create a realistic creature that looked like it came from the movies.

These statues originally retailed for $1,249.00 for the exclusive version. Meanwhile, an open-box copy sold on eBay for $4,000.00 on February 14, 2022.

7. ALIENS vs. Predator Production Art Painting by Dave Dorman

ALIENS vs. Predator Production Art Painting by Dave Dorman

One of the artists who has done extensive work for various horror and fantasy franchises is Dave Dorman. While he is well-known for his Star Wars artwork, he has contributed to many more IPs. He worked as an artist at Dark Horse Comics for several years, where he worked on various issues related to Predator, including ALIENS and ALIENS vs. Predator. Some of his most beloved art was featured in ALIENS: Tribes and Predator: Race War.

Moreover, Dave Dorman has created artwork that helped set the direction for various other media, like movies. Thus, he created production art for the 2004 film, Aliens vs. Predator. One of these pieces featured a Predator holding up a Xenomorph head that he had impaled on its spike. The Predator also held a spiked shuriken in its right hand. It also featured stone carvings depicting a Yautja at the top. Below the head were various heads with spines still attached, similar to the species’ favored trophies.

This piece of art was made available on eBay. The listing stated that the art measured 16” x 20”, making it an impressive accept piece. This painting sold on eBay for $4,000.00 on March 22, 2015.

6. Sideshow Collectibles Life-Size Predator Bust

Sideshow Collectibles Life-Size Predator Bust

Sideshow Collectibles made many different varieties of statues that are treasured by collectors. In addition to creating full-body sculptures, they also produced life-size busts of famous creatures like the Predator. As with their other collectibles, they detailed these busts to make them realistic and screen-accurate.

Working in conjunction with Stan Winston Studios, Sideshow created a life-size bust of the Predator from the 1987 film. This predator was the original design that many fans revere. It hunted down a troop of US special forces soldiers that were in Central America to help keep the peace. While he took out the majority of the squad, he could not defeat its leader, Dutch.  This Predator’s face was extremely memorable as its reveal was accompanied by the iconic “You’re one ugly motherfucker”.

While this predator wore its mask during the majority of the movie, Sideshow created a bust without the mask. Furthermore, the mandibles were extended, providing a clear view of the creature’s mouth. While the bust included the very top of the alien’s chest, it stopped short of the shoulders.

One of these busts sold on eBay, where the listing ended at $4,550.00 on September 18, 2017. While the listing stated that the item was an artist proof, it used promotional photos from the retail release.

5. Sideshow Collectibles Cinemaquette Predator 32” Resin Statue

As many of the statues from Sideshow Collectibles begin in the thousands of dollars, there is little surprise that they are often appearing on our list. The company has created many detailed collectibles for multiple franchises. As one of the most beloved horror icons, the Predator has been a frequent part of their line-up.

In the late 2000s, Sideshow Collectibles introduced the 32” Cinemaquette Predator resin statue to the market. This statue was part of the Cinemaquette series from the company. Like many of the most popular Predator collectibles, it featured a sculpture of the original creature from the 1987 film. He stood in an imposing pose on a base themed after a forest.

Sideshow constructed this statue out of polyurethane composite, giving the statue plenty of heft. As a 1:3 scale collectible, the Predator stood tall and made a perfect centerpiece for any collection. The base even included clear resin that simulated the look of the watery swamp where the Jungle Predator stalked its prey.

Moreover, this statue featured a few different accessories. Aside from the necklace that hung across its chest, it included bladed wrist gauntlets and a shoulder-mounted cannon. It also included light-up elements within the cannon.

As this statue is considered one of the holy grails of Predator collections, it often sells for over $5,000.00. On November 11, 2017, one of these statues sold for $8,500.00 on eBay.

4. Magee FX Life Size Predator

Magee FX Life Size Predator

While Stan Winston famously created the Predator, there have been many other artists contributing to designs of the species over the years. One of these talented make-up and special effects artists is Patrick Magee, who provided his talents in the production of ALIENS vs. Predator. Following his love of American Werewolf in London and Thriller, Magee became determined to become a part of the movie industry. He has worked for multiple special effects shops such as Stan Winston Studios, Screaming Mad George, and Studio ADI. With over 20 years of experience, he has created a wide range of creatures and effects.

As Pat Magee now runs his own effects studio, he also produces special collectibles. Most of these items are busts or head sculpts. However, there was also a life-size replica of a Predator made available to the market. Even though his work came later, he used his talents to recreate the creature from the original film. To create this collectible, he utilized Stan Winston’s molds.

This life-size Predator replica appeared on eBay, where it sold for $15,000.00 on January 22, 2023.

3. Crain “Predator” Machete/Knife Collection

Crain “Predator” Machete/Knife Collection

Aside from visual effects artists, several more trades workers help create the intricate look and feel of movies. Traditional artists help develop the concept art that sets the tone for the movie. Likewise, pyrotechnical engineers, costume designers, and set designers set up the world of the film. Then, other, smaller elements bring the scene to life. For instance, a movie production crew can call upon a trained blacksmith to create distinctive knives for the film.

In the case of Predator, Jack Crain helped design the knives utilized in both the first and second films. His extensive career traces back to 1980. In addition to creating high-quality knives, he has also created weaponry seen in Dracula 2000, Demolition Man, Commando, and many more movies.

Three of the knives that Jack Crain created for the Predator movies were released in a complete set. This set included the Predator Machete, Predator MCS, and the Predator Hunter. Each of these blades was released in limited edition runs.

The Predator Machete featured a 14 ½” long blade and weighed over 2 pounds. Meanwhile, the Predator MCS had a 9” blade with a hollow handle. This knife was stamped with a Life Support System brand. Finally, the Predator Hunter weighed around 12 oz. and had a 7” long blade.

A full set of Jack Crain’s Predator knives was made available on eBay. This set included the #1 out of 25 version of the Predator Machete. It also included the #1 out of 50 Predator MCS and the #1 out of 50 Predator Hunter. The set sold for $15,000.00 on November 09, 2019.

2. Elder Predator Head Prop from ALIENS vs. Predator

Elder Predator Head Prop from ALIENS vs. Predator

Many props and costumes are regularly created to help produce a movie. Special Effects crews will build elements used for certain shots, including animatronic heads. When the crew controlled the animatronics, they effectively made it expressive for close-up shots. Otherwise, the simulated movements brought the character to life in full-body shots.

One of the head props that were used in one of the AVP movies was made available through Julien’s Auctions. This head was created for the 20th Century Fox production of ALIENS vs. Predator in 2004. The effects crew created the head out of latex, foam, silicone, and resin so that it would be durable enough to survive shooting. It was also flexible at the joints so that the mandibles and other facial elements could move. The head included hand-painted designs, resin teeth, and foam dreadlocks. It also featured plastic eyes which were installed after the film’s production had concluded. Moreover, wiring was present on the back of the head, which likely allowed the effects team to puppet the facial movements.

This rare movie prop had a recorded sale of $16,000.00 on December 17, 2022. Aside from the head prop, the listing also included a DVD copy of the first ALIENS vs. Predator film.

1. Latex Creature Costume from Predator 2

Costume from Predator 2

Many fans dream of the chance to own a piece of their beloved movies. Sometimes, productions liquidate the props and set pieces, making them available to collectors. However, it is even rarer to find items worn by the greatest stars from the film. This is even more true for special effects costumes made of degradable latex.

The Predator was dreamed up by Stan Winston, but Kevin Peter Hall brought the creature to life. During the production of the film, this creature actor wore a full-body special effects suit that transformed him into the terrifying extraterrestrial. Aside from the texture of the skin, this suit also included claws and detailed armor. It even included a metallic mask that covered the creature’s head and tendrils.

One of the costumes that this actor wore in Predator 2 was made available to the public in 2020. Due to the age of the suit, it had signs of wear. It also had missing components and damaged pieces. Despite the fair condition of this suit, it sold for a documented $16,000.00 on December 03, 2020, from Julien’s Auctions.
