Who Owned the Toys?

Selling large toy collections is much less problematic if you are their original owner. This is especially true when a toy collection has had several different lines. If you are not the original owner, rather than reading the rest of this article, contact us for more specific guidance on how to sell used M.A.S.K. toys.

Identifying and Organizing Your Toy Collection

When you are dealing with a large toy collection, you may not be immediately aware of which items have the greatest value. So, you must handle the toys with extreme caution. Do not allow the toy’s looks to mislead you. Being a small, plastic object does not make it necessarily more valuable than a larger one. We recommend that you begin by sorting those items you know, organizing them by brand into distinct groups. This will be easier with some brands than with others. This process is, of course, easier if you are the original owner of the collection. In either case, sort them to the best of your ability.

Evaluate the Worth of Your Vintage Toys

Before you are ready to sell your M.A.S.K. toys, you will want to determine their market value.

The best way to approach pricing old toys is by researching what they have sold for most recently. One of the easiest places to do this is eBay, where you can look up both sold and active listings. The key to getting the best price point for your old toys is looking at the listings of sold items. You should not rely on the active listings, however, as there are sellers who ask for an outrageously higher price than they can ever stand a chance of getting.

Once you begin to look through the sold items, do not simply sort them in descending order. There are plenty of reasons why the same toy sells for as high as $100 or as low as $15. While there are toys that appear to be the same as the ones you are trying to sell, they could have originally sold with parts that yours may not have. Otherwise, they could have been in much better condition than the ones that sold for much less.

Condition Matters When Selling M.A.S.K. Figures

As with anything else, a toy in better condition will command a higher asking price. The amount of wear on a product determines where on the pricing spectrum your toy falls. Either you will need to examine it to see if it is in ‘like new’ condition. Otherwise, you will notice that it has significant wear from extensive play. You will want to investigate whether the toy still has all the originally packaged parts, whether you still have the box it came in, the condition of that box, etc. All of these are key factors that will affect the standings of your asking price. The better the condition, the higher the asking price you can ask for. This is not an effortless process. It does require some research, but it is the best way to get an idea of the toy’s worth.

How Clean Is Your Collection?

The cleanliness of a toy collection is another crucial factor. Toys in poor condition turn off buyers since they are looking for a collection in a good state. So, they become less likely to receive a fair offer. Even if the toys came from a home with a smoker, they may experience discoloration, another buyer turn-off.

The following are many of the factors that lower the value of toys:

  • dust caking the toys because they have been sitting in an open box.
  • brittle plastic because of exposure to intense heat or low humidity.
  • faded colors from sun exposure.
  • an infestation by bugs, rodents, or dander.

Luckily, there are some methods to fix faded or discolored vintage toys that you can find in this helpful guide.

How to Sell M.A.S.K Vintage Toys

There are several ways to find prospective buyers that will be interested in buying old toy collectibles. The best way to sell your toys is one that works best for you.

These are the primary factors that you need to decide how to sell your toys:

  • how much time you are looking to spend?
  • how dedicated you will be to selling these items?

Here are a few options along with the upsides and downsides of using each of them.

Pawnshops

You can try to pawn the toys off at a local pawn shop. On the plus side, pawn shops are often locally accessible and are easy places to unload your collection.

On the flip side, you are dealing with a business with highly selective clientele. They will certainly not be willing to pay you the true value of your collection in order not to lose money when they try to convert into their sale.

Online Toy Dealer

If your goal is to get the collection sold quickly, an online toy dealer (such as here at Wheeljack’s Lab) might be your best bet. You may conduct background checks with the Better Business Bureau quickly. The transactions usually taking less than a week for completion. We even pay for shipment to make it easier for our customers to get the products to us.

Of course, this is also not a great approach if your goal is to get the full value for your collection.

Online Sales Forums/Pages (Craigslist, Facebook, etc.)

The clear benefit of selling through online sales mediums is that you are making your sale visible to a wide base of clients. There are no overhead sales fees, the prices are good, and the platforms are simple and intuitive.

On the downside, these forums can be time-consuming to deal with. With sale’s interest being slow or time wasted on people who are more interested in looking around without any intent to buy, you encounter a limited rate of success. Then, there are the privacy concerns along with potential fraud risks. Meanwhile, there is no customer support to help with any of them.

Online Auctions

Online auctions like eBay are another choice that offers fair prices and a large pool of prospective buyers.

However, the fees for listing products are high. The process is time-consuming, often slow, not very intuitive. Also, there is no telling how well the bidding will end for a listed item. Plus, you will be making a lot of post office trips. If the buyer is not satisfied for any reason, you have no choice but to accept the items back.

Local Toy Dealer

When selling your toy collection through a local toy dealer you will not be spending a ton of time setting up the sale. You are likely to get results quickly, with background checks available with the BBB. There are also no fees and you would be helping a local business as well.

However, local dealers will need to make some profit on the sale, so the prices they will offer you will be lower than the value your collection is worth (much like in a pawn shop).

Local Auction Service

Local auction services are easy to use, but they suffer from slow turnaround times. So, predicting the sale your collection will sell for is almost impossible because it just depends on what buyers show up for the bidding on a particular day. There are also high fees for listing the items. Unless you are working with someone who specializes in these sales and are trying to sell an enormous collection, you are unlikely to get anywhere near what you might be hoping for.
