Top 10 Most Expensive Super Powers Toys

Many toy companies have been tasked with the desirable responsibility of producing action figures for DC’s cast of superheroes and supervillains. One of the companies entrusted with this duty was Kenner. The company was founded in 1946 and later purchased by various companies, ending with its incorporation into Hasbro. Kenner reigned over licensed figures for decades, with an unparalleled number of figures based off of franchises. Not only that, but Kenner presented their own array of fun and unique toys for children around the world.

Based out of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kenner produced both original and licensed toys. Though they released a mix of unique and branded toys, their original products unfortunately do not have the legacy of the likes of their Super Powers, Aliens, and Star Wars figures. During a time predominated by original toy lines with dedicated television shows, Kenner’s approach to toy production made it stand out amongst the rest.

Even following its acquisition and dissolution, Kenner’s splash on the toy industry and fans alike is still felt. The company’s toys have a charm and a straightforward nature that draw fans in. Like most other toys of the time, these products become rarer and more valuable with time. Due to this, many of Kenner’s action figures, vehicles, playsets, and more fetch for high prices on the secondary market.

Presenting the Ten Most Expensive Kenner Super Powers Toys that Have Sold on Online Auction Sites

Understanding the value, both monetary and sentimental, of Kenner’s Super Powers Collection toy line, we sought to compile the ten most expensive Kenner Super Powers toys that have sold from online auction sites. To compile this list, we looked over archives of these listings on sites such as Worthpoint, excluding any bulk purchases, prototypes, and non-toy items. We also excluded any listings where the same product was sold at a lower price, allowing us to avoid duplicates and show a greater, more diverse array of these beloved figures. Please note that not all images are from the original listings, as we use our own photos when available.

10. Kenner Pacipa Super Amigos 1989 Riddler AFA 75

Kenner Pacipa Super Amigos 1989 Riddler AFA 75

While Kenner is known for the production of the Super Powers toy line, they sub-licensed the line to other companies in order to reach an international market. Two of these companies, Pacipa and Play Ful, produced figures in Argentina to appeal to fans in the area. Interestingly, these companies released a figure not found in Kenner’s line of toys: the Riddler.

The Riddler was introduced to the world with the publication of Detective Comics #140 in October of 1948. Following his debut, he amassed a plethora of fans, as he captivated many through his grandiose and elaborate crimes. The Riddler is a staple of Batman’s rogues gallery, frequently facing off against the hero in movies, comics, games, and more.

The Pacipa Riddler figure sports the villain’s classic green leotard with purple accents and question marks. The figure is a repainted version of the line’s Green Lantern figure. Interestingly, unlike the typical Kenner Super Powers releases, the back of the packaging does not feature the figure’s play feature. When the Riddler’s legs are squeezed, his right arm swings forward, a carry-over from the original Green Lantern figure. This Argentina-exclusive release marks the only time this iconic character appeared in the original Super Powers line. Due to this, the Super Powers Riddler figure is an elusive release that many collectors desire.

An AFA 75 sealed Pacipa Riddler figure appeared for sale on Hake’s Auctions, where it sold for $2,148.19 on June 30, 2021. The card and blister were in great shape, with only minor wear on the unpunched card. The figure still remained untouched within the packaging. Due to the figure being a graded copy of a region-specific release, the toy rightfully earned its place as the 10th most expensive Kenner Super Powers toy.

9. Kenner Super Powers 1986 Batcopter AFA 80

Kenner Super Powers 1986 Batcopter AFA 80

Though Kenner’s Super Powers line focused on the action figures, some iconic hero vehicles were produced to supplement the colorful cast. These vehicles helped scale up the conflict for fans. The first appearance of the Batcopter was in the 1966 Batman film, though the Super Powers Batcopter differs in all but name.

Though the vehicle featured various gimmicks, it did not require batteries to function. The vehicle featured a “blast-off nose cone,” “spinning villain grabber,” and “rotating chopper blades.” The helicopter blades and the villain grabber were connected to one another, meaning that when the helicopter blades were spun, the attached villain figure did, too. When not in use, the villain grabber also served as a knob to spin the helicopter blades. Kenner designed the ejecting nose cone so it could hook figures. After, the figure could be pulled back to the Batcopter using a built-in winch.

An AFA 80 sealed copy of the Batcopter listed on eBay sold for $2,199.99 on April 18, 2017. The box appeared to be in great condition, with only minor wear to some of the corners.

8. Kenner Super Powers 1984 Wonder Woman AFA 85

Kenner Super Powers 1984 Wonder Woman AFA 85

The superhero scene was permanently changed with the publication of All Star Comics #8 on October 21, 1941. Introduced in this issue of the comic is the now-famous Wonder Woman. The character is known for her incredible combat abilities, Lasso of Truth, and impenetrable bracelets. Along with Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman is largely considered to be one of DC’s primary three heroes.

Like other Super Powers Collection figures, Wonder Woman had several packaging variants spanning the length of the toy line. This specific figure is the first series copy of the figure, featuring 12 figures on the back and a fan club offer. Along with the figure is a pack-in comic which features further information regarding the advertised fan club offer. Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth is bundled in to perpetuate her fight against villainy. The packaging of the figure displays the play function of the toy. When her legs are squeezed together, Wonder Woman’s arms raise into a blocking position.

One of the first releases of Kenner’s Super Powers Wonder Woman was listed on Hake’s Auctions, sealed and rated as AFA 85. The card and blister were in incredible condition, with only very minor marks along the edges of the unpunched card. This toy sold for $2,596.00 on March 20, 2024.

7. Kenner Super Powers 1984 Hawkman AFA 80

Kenner Super Powers 1984 Hawkman AFA 80

Hawkman first appeared in Flash Comics #1, published on November 20, 1939. While Hawkman is not as revered as DC’s most iconic heroes, Hawkman has an equally colorful history. Hawkman and Green Arrow are historical rivals throughout DC’s comics. Interestingly, the two dislike each other due to political differences, which adds a unique depth to the characterization of both heroes.

Hawkman includes his iconic mace and a pack-in comic. The figure contains a play feature where his wings flap upon squeezing his legs together. This specific Hawkman is a first series version, featuring 12 characters on the back of the card and the fan club offer. Within the comic is further information regarding the fan club offer.

On March 16, 2022, an AFA 80 Hawkman figure sold on Hake’s Auctions for $2,855.60. The card was unpunched with minimal scuffing around the edge of the card, and the blister and figure were in similarly great condition.

6. Kenner Super Powers 1986 Cyborg AFA 85

Kenner Super Powers 1986 Cyborg AFA 85

Cyborg was introduced in DC Comics Presents #26 in October of 1980. Cyborg’s cybernetic body provides him with super strength, the ability to interface with various electronics, and perhaps most iconically, his ability to reformat his robotic parts depending on the situation he’s in.

The Super Powers Cyborg figure features a removable right hand which can be replaced by one of either two included arm attachments. The figure does not include a pack-in comic, and the back of the card features 33 figures. Cyborg features a play feature where when legs are squeezed together, he performs a reverse karate chop.

An AFA 85 Super Powers Cyborg was listed on Hake’s Auction and later sold on March 16, 2022 for $3,115.20. The unpunched card only had minor marks along the bottom, and the blister and toy were generally pristine.

5. Kenner Super Powers 1984 Hall of Justice AFA 80

Kenner Super Powers 1984 Hall of Justice AFA 80

The Hall of Justice was the headquarters for DC’s beloved Justice League. The Hall of Justice was first introduced in Hanna-Barbera’s Super Friends cartoon. The building was inspired by the Cincinnati Union Terminal, both a train station and host of the Cincinnati Museum Center.

The Hall of Justice featured various different gimmicks advertised on the front of the box. The features are as follows, a “vehicle landing pad,” “computer command center,” “revitalization and storage chambers,” “jail cells with [a] hidden trap door,” and a “working elevator and security doors.” The set served to be a hub for both the figures and their vehicles, and was surely an incredible gift for any fan of the toy line.

A sealed AFA 80 Hall of Justice set was listed on Hake’s Auctions, and later sold for $3,245.00. The box featured minor wrinkling and several minor scuffs. Other than the aforementioned small blemishes, the box was in a great condition with no visible fading or stains.

4. Kenner Super Powers 1984 Uncirculated Aquaman AFA U85

Kenner Super Powers 1984 Uncirculated Aquaman AFA U85

Aquaman is a beloved DC character who made his debut in More Fun Comics #73, published in November of 1941. He was a no-brainer for Kenner to include among his heroic peers in their Super Powers Collection.

This graded Aquaman figure is a very unique item. The figure has an AFA rating of U85, which means that the figure was in its sealed factory case up until AFA opened it up to grade the product within. Aquaman’s play function involved squeezing his arms together, causing his legs to kick back and forth.

The figure was listed for sale on eBay, where it sold for $3,450.00 on October 29, 2017. The unpunched card had minor marks and a ring of yellow staining running along the entire edge of the package. Otherwise, this very unique figure was in great shape, and certainly worth the price despite the flaws.

3. Kenner Super Powers 1984 Uncirculated Batmobile AFA U85+

Kenner Super Powers 1984 Uncirculated Batmobile AFA U85+

When Kenner designed toy adaptations of DC vehicles, they undoubtedly had the Batmobile at the top of their list. Batman’s iconic car first appeared in Detective Comics #27, though it was not named until Detective Comics #48, published in May of 1939 and February of 1941, respectively.

The Batmobile features three functions: headlights that pop up with the press of a button, a battering ram function at the front of a vehicle, and a claw on the back of the vehicle. The vehicle and its plethora of features added a great deal of play value to any child’s set of toys, and contributes a lot of presence to a fan’s collection today.

Much like our last entry, the AFA U85+ Batmobile remained in the manufacturer’s case until grading. The seller listed the vehicle on eBay, where it sold for $3,495.00 on May 13, 2017. The box was in excellent condition barring a few small scuffs around the corners.

2. Lili Ledy Kenner Super Poderes 1984 Batman

Lili Ledy Kenner Super Poderes 1984 Batman

This Batman figure was produced by Lidi Ledy, another company sub-licensing the Super Powers Collection, this time in Mexico. Batman debuted in Detective Comics #27, published on March 30, 1939. While Batman lacks the super powers of his peers, his vast array of tools, weapons, and vehicles compounded with his essentially unlimited funds provides a unique approach among DC’s cast of super-powered heroes.

Produced under the Super Poderes Coleccion, this Batman featured a slightly larger Batman insignia on his chest, slightly different belt detailing, and lacked copyright information that would typically be on one of the toy’s legs. The variations in how different manufacturers produce the same figure can be observed when comparing this figure with Kenner’s version. Batman’s play function involves squeezing his legs together, resulting in both arms swinging in opposite directions.

The ungraded figure was on a punched card with small scuffs across the cardboard. There was some wear on the blister, but the figure was in great condition. This Batman’s owner listed the figure on eBay on October 29, 2019 for $4,500.00. Despite this high price, there is a large difference between the value of the most and second most expensive Kenner Super Powers toys.

1. Gulliver Kenner Super Heroes El Capitan Rayo AFA 70

Gulliver Kenner Super Heroes El Capitan Rayo AFA 70

This unique character, produced by the toy company Gulliver sub-licensing the Super Powers toy line, was based off of the Super Powers Superman. El Capitan Rayo, the lightning-wielding hero, was certainly an eccentric figure. The back of the card identified the hero as Francisco D’ardione, who could control storms, direct and throw lightning, fly, and take in various types of energy. The packaging states that he was mortal and required a constant supply of energy to survive. Gulliver released him with an even more unique and unusual figure: the Abominable Snowman, white with gray shorts and vibrant purple hair.

Along with its Abominable Snowman contemporary, El Capitan Rayo, or simply titles Captain Ray in English, was branded as part of the Super Heroes Collection,” despite the rest of Gulliver’s DC figures being branded as the “Super Powers Collection.” The package was bilingual, with Spanish as the primary language and English as the secondary language. The figure was packed in with a poster, presumably of El Capitan Rayo himself. The back of the package advertises 7 DC superhero figures and Capitan Rayo on pure white backgrounds.

An AFA 70 copy of the figure was listed on eBay, with the seller calling it “THE Holy Grail for Kenner Super Powers collectors” in reference to just how rare the piece is. The card was warped and had a crease across the corner, though the figure was left unscathed. The electrifying hero sold on December 02, 2022 for a mighty $7,999.95, marking it as the most expensive Kenner Super Powers figure to date.
