Coleco featured one of their new toy lines, Starcom the U.S. Space Force, within the pages of the 1987 Toy Fair Catalog. In the 21st century, the heroic men of Starcom fought for freedom against the evil Shadow Force. Led by General Vondar and General Torvek, soldiers of the mysterious Supreme Emperor Dark, the enemy, strove to dominate the free galaxy and ultimately conquer Earth. Meanwhile, the Magna Lock power of the men of Starcom, as well as the might of their Power Deploy battle machines, delivered the excitement of the future.

Page 34 of the 1987 Coleco Toy Fair Catalog presented information on 1341, the Starcom H.A.R.V.-7 or Heavy Armed Recovery Vehicle. This toy had a motorized Power Deploy Magna Lock lifter that picked up a pod or vehicle and then set it on its flatbed with the touch of a button. It included a fuel pod and a Magna Lock magnetic action figure: its driver, Staff Sgt. Champ O’Ryan. The H.A.R.V.-7 could also lift and carry a Cargo Pod or 6 different vehicles and featured an automatic cargo release and swivel guns.
Then, they promoted 1342, the Shadow Raider, a Sneak Attack Vehicle. This vehicle had a motorized Power Deploy that changed it from speed raider to attack machine at the touch of a button. It also came with a Magna Lock magnetic action figure: its driver, Capt. Battlecron-9. Furthermore, it could accept 2 gunners. The multi-position tank tracks raised the vehicle to carry 6 different other vehicles or a Cargo Pod on its Magna Lock magnetic lifter. It also had pop-up guns and an automatic cargo release.

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Coleco handed out catalogs to toy fair and other event attendees like dealers and retailers. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they were often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Thus, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Coleco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the Sectaurs, who combined insects with superheroes, appeared in multiple catalogs. Likewise, Coleco produced and promoted the Rambo toy line, which focused on the cartoon series. There were also many vehicles and toys from the Starcom toy line.
Coleco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only in these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
