The Toxic Crusaders toy line was released by Playmates Toys in 1991, based on the animated series inspired by Troma's The Toxic Avenger films. Released during the height of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-style action figures, the line featured mutant heroes including Toxie, No-Zone, Major Disaster, Headbanger, Junkyard, and Blobbie, battling villains such as Dr. Killemoff, Bonehead, Psycho, and the army-building Radiation Rangers. Sculpted by Varner Studios, the line also included collectible vehicles like the Crusader Skater, Hideous Hovercraft, Toxic Turf Surfer, Smogcycle, and Apocalypse Attackcopter.

Although Toxic Crusaders Series 2 was cancelled before release, surviving prototypes and unreleased figures have become some of the most desirable Playmates collectibles. International releases by Bandai and Yapon Toys, along with prototype variations such as the original Toxie sculpt without his signature bandana, add to the line's appeal.
