1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog – 8 – Batman Forever

We invite you to explore the pages of the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog with our high-definition scans. This catalog was handed out to retailers and other vendors. It helped the company promote its new toy selection and sign up vendors to sell their toys. It also gave some exclusive first looks at its upcoming toys from the year.

Following the release of Batman Forever in 1995, the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog featured action figures based on the film. Unlike the previous two live-action films directed by Tim Burton, this movie had a more campy feel to the action. With neon lights and multiple gadgets, the movie allowed Hasbro to create a playful toy line.

This 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog page began by promoting the 64105 Batman Forever Triple Action Vehicle Set. With this vehicle, fans could construct 3 different Bat-vehicles: the Batwing, the Batboat, and the Batmobile. Moreover, these pieces snapped together easily for fun construction play.

There was also the 64172 Batman Forever Batcave Playset. This enormous Batcave environment brought the movie’s action home. The control center featured an elevator with Bruce Wayne to Batman quick-change action. From there, Batman could take charge at the computer control console. There was also a car ramp that lifted and rotated the Batmobile 360 degrees as well as a firing gunner station. Then, the playset featured a command base with a surprise jail cell and catwalk to capture villains. Batman could even slide down the escape rope. Meanwhile, the Batwing could hang from the scaffolding when at rest.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
