Explore the pages of the rare 1990 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog with our high-definition scans. While these catalogs were originally only handed out to trade professionals, you may now enjoy them. This catalog featured Hasbro’s ever-popular G.I. Joe and Transformers toy lines. It also explored new lines like Tribes and the Flying Fighters.

Page 94 of the 1990 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog introduced readers to the Flying Fighters, a line of military aerospace vehicles. Unlike the toys in the G.I. Joe line, these vehicles strived for realism. Thus, they were some of the most accurate depictions of military aircraft outside of model kits. They also featured electronics to provide even more excitement.

This 1990 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog page began with the Helicopter Assortment, #6935. The AH-64 Apache Helicopter was the most potent attack helicopter ever to see service and was the newest member of the Flying Fighters’ aerial arsenal.

It featured functioning rotor blades and a detachable control stick that made realistic sounds of spinning chopper blades, missile lock-on and launch, and machine gun fire. Modeled after two of the most exciting, real-life Army chopper companies, each one also came complete with a pilot and gunner, a double-sided poster with detailed company information, a replica company patch, and more. These vehicles required three “AA-sized batteries, which were not included.

Next, they presented information on the Fighter Jets Assortments I & II, #6940 and #6945. These combat-ready jets were swift and lethal. The F-4E Phantom and the A-10 Warthog were the latest fighter jets to join the Flying Fighters squadron.

Both planes featured a detachable control stick that produced actual in-flight electronic sounds of jet engines roaring, a missile lock-on with launch, and machine gun fire. Each also came with 2 pilots, a bio card, a double-sided poster, and detailed jet specifications with squadron history, missiles, bombs, retractable landing gear, and a replica squadron patch. These planes required two “AA-sized batteries, which were not included.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
