Explore the pages of the rare 1988 Coleco Toy Fair Catalog with our high-definition scans. Sadly, Coleco closed its doors in 1989. So, this was one of the final catalogs that they ever handed out to dealers, vendors, and other trade professionals. Even though this was one of Coleco’s final Toy Fair Catalogs, it still had treasures to find. For instance, it featured the exciting Starcom line of action figures and vehicles.
Coleco featured the Starcom toy line, which the company introduced in 1987, within the pages of the 1988 Toy Fair Catalog. In the 21st century, the heroic men of Starcom fought for freedom against the evil Shadow Force. This action-packed range of space-age toys combined today’s technology’s wonders with tomorrow’s futuristic designs. Each vehicle featured Power Deploy action, Motorized and Spring-Action operations that moved by themselves at the touch of a button. Meanwhile, the action figures featured Magna Lock using the power of magnets that allowed them to defy gravity.

Page 53 of the 1988 Coleco Toy Fair Catalog promoted 1341, the Starcom H.A.R.V.-7 (Heavy Assault Recovery Vehicle). By simply pressing the button, the motorized Power Deploy Magna Lock Lifter picked up a Cargo Pod, any pod-sized vehicle, or an Action Pod and placed it on a flatbed. This vehicle also featured an Automatic Cargo Release and Swiveling Guns.
Next, they presented 1342, the Shadow Raider, a sneak attack vehicle. By pushing a button, players transformed this speed raider into a sneak attack vehicle, thanks to the motorized Power Deploy. This vehicle had Pop-Up Guns, an Automatic Cargo Release, and Multi-position Tank Tracks that raised it to carry any Pod-sized vehicle, an Action Pod, or a Cargo Pod on its Magna Lock Magnetic Lifter.
Then, Coleco advertised 1343, the Skyroller, a high-raising super tank. Skyroller was a high-speed armored tank and a critical piece of machinery for Starcom’s ground forces, the Astro Marines. When the enemy was sighted, the Power Deploy body and cab rose into a Battle Tower, allowing long-range targetting of the devastating Laser Supercannons.
Finally, there was 1353, the Shadow Bandit, an enemy pod lifter. It was easy to make a pod-stealing bandit out of a high-speed air vehicle when the vehicle had motorized Power Deploy. With just the push of a button, the Power Deploy Wings and Magnetic Arm were lowered to catch a pod. This vehicle also had Swivelling Cannons and a windshield that opened.

About Our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans
To promote their upcoming slate of products, Coleco handed out catalogs to toy fair and other event attendees like dealers and retailers. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they were often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Thus, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Coleco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the Sectaurs, who combined insects with superheroes, appeared in multiple catalogs. Likewise, Coleco produced and promoted the Rambo toy line, which focused on the cartoon series. There were also many vehicles and toys from the Starcom toy line.
Coleco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only in these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While Coleco only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
