The 1986 Coleco Toy Fair Catalog introduced readers of the new Rambo action figure line, based on the blockbluster movie. He was America’s ultimate weapon, unequaled in courage, unfailing in patriotism. He was a man who did not know defeat. Rambo led a select group of trained experts, the Force of Freedom, who risked their lives for freedom’s cause. With Rambo, they battled the scheming General Warhawk, the sinister leader of S.A.V.A.G.E., a worldwide terrorism group.

Originally from the 1985 blockbuster movie, Rambo became 1986’s hot property for kids. The battle between The Force of Freedom and S.A.V.A.G.E. would be brought to TV that spring in a 5-part animated mini-series. Then, in the fall, 65 animated half-hour TV shows would bring Rambo, The Force of Freedom, and S.A.V.A.G.E. to children five days a week.
There would be a complete line of figures, weapons, and vehicles that created a full play environment. This line featured highly detailed 6 ¾” poseable figures with unique, battle-action accessory weapons specially designed for each character. All figures and accessories also came with collectible I.D. cards.

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Coleco handed out catalogs to toy fair and other event attendees like dealers and retailers. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they were often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Thus, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Coleco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the Sectaurs, who combined insects with superheroes, appeared in multiple catalogs. Likewise, Coleco produced and promoted the Rambo toy line, which focused on the cartoon series. There were also many vehicles and toys from the Starcom toy line.
Coleco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only in these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
