1986 Coleco Rambo Toy Fair Catalog – Rambo

Explore the pages of the rare 1986 Coleco Rambo Toy Fair Catalog with our high-definition scans. This catalog focused on the new toy line for 1986: Rambo. However, there were also clues to the plans for other toy lines like Sectaurs.

New for the 1986 line-up, Coleco presented the toys based on the smash-hit movie, Rambo, in this Toy Fair Catalog. While audiences first met Rambo in the 1985 movie, he was set to hit toy shelves in 1986. Since the movie had been R-rated, Coleco opted to concentrate on the new cartoon series that would appeal to younger viewers. So, these toys featured characters from the Force of Freedom and S.A.V.A.G.E.

This 1983 Coleco Rambo Toy Fair Catalog presented the details of a member of S.A.V.A.G.E., Mad Dog, whose legal name was unknown. He had multiple distinguishing physical characteristics such as a 6’0” stature and an orange mohawk haircut. While he had no military record, he did have an extensive criminal record. Mad Dog was able to easily travel throughout crowded cities on his S.A.V.A.G.E. Strike Cycle.

MAD DOG traveled in and about the urban centers of the world, spreading terror and disbelief wherever he went. He started his criminal career at the age of 7 by stealing his first motorcycle. Since then he had stolen 28 bikes and spent time in jail for each crime.

MAD DOG was a total barbarian. His allegiance to GENERAL WARHAWK was questionable, but THE GENERAL liked his outrageous style anyway. WARHAWK just didn’t want to be around when MAD DOG was collared by RAMBO, because the guy really foamed at the mouth.

MAD DOG led a pack of S.A V.A.G.E. Strike Bikers. They lived in vacant, condemned buildings and traveled throughout an urban network of sewers. When they needed to hide out, they just dropped down the nearest manhole cover. These underworld criminals would like nothing better than to leave their tread marks all over RAMBO and THE FORCE OF FREEDOM.

About Our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Coleco handed out catalogs to toy fair and other event attendees like dealers and retailers. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they were often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Thus, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Coleco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the Sectaurs, who combined insects with superheroes, appeared in multiple catalogs. Likewise, Coleco produced and promoted the Rambo toy line, which focused on the cartoon series. There were also many vehicles and toys from the Starcom toy line.

Coleco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only in these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Coleco only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
