Page 84 of the 1985 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog continued featuring the G.I. Joe A Real American Hero action figures, accessories, and vehicles. Even though Hasbro first introduced G.I. Joe in the 1960s, the toy line had disappeared by the end of the 1970s. Thanks to Bob Prupic’s persistence, his “Operation: Blast Off” led to the revitalization of the line.

First, Hasbro promoted assortment #6063: the Crimson Guard Commanders, the masters of undercover espionage who became G.I. Joe’s most feared adversary. As mirror images of each other, the Crimson Twins knew when the other was in danger. These elite, undercover espionage guardsmen were the leaders of the top-secret “Crimson Guard,” the intelligence behind COBRA. Each package included pistols and a skyhook. Meanwhile, each assortment included 24 pieces.
Next, Hasbro presented #6064, ZARTAN THE ENEMY, with Swamp Skier CHAMELEON. ZARTAN was the master of disguise and deception. His mission was to spy on the G.I. Joe and report back to COBRA. To achieve this, he could change color to conceal his true identity while he blended in with his environment. For further deception, Zartan donned a face mask and then pulled it off before hiding it in his backpack. Each assortment came with 24 pieces.
Finally, Hasbro promoted assortment #6092: the Battle Gear Assortment. This exciting new battle gear added to the diversity of the G.I. Joe collection. Both packs #2 and #3 contained different helmets, specialized backpacks, and weapons in all-new colors. Then, the battle stands helped the G.I. Joe fight on rough terrain. Meanwhile, the helmets and backpacks snapped on and stayed on. All parts were interchangeable with any G.I. Joe figure. Each assortment included 16 Battle Gear Pack #2 and 32 Battle Gear Pack #3.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans
To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.
Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
