Top 10 Most Expensive Godaikin Toys

Running from 1982 until 1985, Godaikin was a Bandai series of Japanese imports of Popy-created super robot figures. Godaikin figures were picked from lines such as Popynica and Chogokin, resulting in a line full of figures who each had their own series in Japan! The toys had some form of combination feature, resulting in additional competition from existing lines, such as Hasbro’s Transformers or Tonka’s Gobots. Additionally, the figures had a premium feel to them, featuring metal parts, pre-applied stickers, typically being large and hefty, and more. Unfortunately, due to the quality and complexities of these figures, they hit shelves at much higher prices than their competition. Figures frequently found themselves north of $50, with figures like Tetsujin 28 being reported to have sold for around $70-$80 (adjusted to ~$250 USD with inflation!) The line failed to stack up to the cheaper and more popular Transformers Expect to see a variety of unique robots as we explore the top 10 most expensive Godaikin toys!

The Godaikin line featured many characters from various anime and tokusatsu that aired in Japan. God Marz was the titular combined robot from the anime Six God Combination God Mars, spelled as “God Mars” in the show. Figures such as Bio Man and Bio Dragon were featured in the show Choudenshi Bioman, and so on. While the diversity of the figures was to its benefit, it also harmed the series, as there was a lack of a unifying piece of media to advertise the series and draw fans in.

Because the toys were expensive and sold poorly, certain figures have become very desirable and valuable on the secondhand market. Interestingly, as you will see, there is a major leap in value across the line, which makes for a rather interesting list!

Voltes V sported a color layout much like Combattra, with a red head and chest, silver upper arms and upper legs, blue forearms and shins, and yellow knee details. Additionally, Voltes V had a top, which owners could spin around their table or other flat surface.

The proud owner of a Voltes V figure posted the toy on eBay in 2019. The toy had not been played with, or “volted in,” as the seller put it. Like many other listings in this list, the box had mild wear, while the styrofoam and toy within were untouched. The listing had a little story to it, as the lister stated that it was the last stock from a toy store that their uncle owned in the 1980s. An eager fan purchased the set on October 10, 2019, for a grand $9,999.99!

1. Tetsujin 28

Godaikin Tetsujin 28

Tetsujin 28 has always been the primo Godaikin item! The toy was largely made of metal, enabling the two included Roboboy and Maintenance Robot toys to stand on the outer hull. Owners could open the outer metal shell, revealing the faux mechanics within the machine. Additionally, owners could place the figures in the figure so they sat in the cockpit between the figure’s legs or repair the inner workings of the robot. Funnily, the small figures featured more points of articulation than the larger robot. Tetsujin 28 also included two hatchets and eight missiles.

Destined to dwarf the price of all other Godaikin figures, this Tetsujin 28 figure was listed on eBay by a seller way back in 2013. The box had a plethora of scrapes and marks on it, but was still intact. The figure was used but still in impeccable condition! A particularly affluent fan saw the listing and decided to put down enough money to make a down payment on a house for this piece. On March 21, 2013, the Tetsujin 28 figure was purchased for a whopping $24,999.00!
