Voltron is an action, adventure, mecha, science fiction, superhero-based media franchise. The media franchise started as a syndicated animated television series. The series featured the adventures of a five-person team of space explorers drafted to go on a mission to the distance Arus. Their journey later truncated after the forces of the planet Doom captured them.
The vibrant Keith led the team as they engineered their escape then crash-landed on planet Arus. Furious, King Zarkon sent a recovery party after them, and they invaded the planet Arus. With the help and blessing from the last surviving member of the royal leaders of Arus, Princess Allura, the five space explorers became the pilots for the legendary Voltron. By joining its five parts together as a whole, they awoke Voltron. Thus, they were able to repel any Robeast attack or any other of King Zarkon’s forces.
A sizable number of heroes and their evil counterparts fill up Voltron: Defender of the Universe’s cast. Thus, the show was never in shortage of protagonists and antagonists alike.
Presenting: the best ten characters that graced the animated television series Voltron: Defender of the Universe
10. Commander Yurak
Jack Angel provided the voice for Commander Yurak in the Voltron: Defender of the Universe animated series. This character is an old Doom military veteran and one of the highest-ranking officers and commanders.
After spearheading many attacks against the Lion Force and Arus and failing every time, King Zarkon and his Senators have about had enough of Yurak. So, they were about to banish him when Prince Lotor suggested for Yurak to transform into a Robeast. Thus, Commander Yurak received a final chance to redeem himself by destroying the Lion Force.
According to the plan, Prince Lotor would distract Keith and the Black Lion to enable Yurak, now a Robeast, to destroy the remaining four Lion Force members. While everything originally went to plan, Yurak enjoyed the victory against the four Lion Force members until Keith joined them. Then, they all merged to form Voltron. Voltron destroyed Robeast Yurak quite effortlessly with the blazing sword.
9. Prince Lotor
Lennie Weinrib provided the voice for Prince Lotor in the Voltron: Defender of the Universe animated television series. The prince is the only son and heir of the Drule King and ruler of the planet Doom.
Just like his father, Prince Lotor is incarnate of evil. However, he despises his father and has made multiple attempts against his father’s life so he can become the ruler. Eventually, Prince Lotor replaced Yurak as commander of the planet Doom forces, which only gave him more opportunities to attack the planet Arus.
Prince Lotor harbors strong feelings for Princess Allura, so strong he was determined to make her his Queen. He hates Keith very much because he suspects there is a love relationship between them. Because of this attraction, Prince Lotor often attempted to kill Keith over the other members of the Lion Force.
8. Haggar
B.J. Ward provided the voice for Haggar in the Voltron: Defender of the Universe animated series. The character is a very powerful witch whose loyalty is with King Zarkon. Haggar is notorious for making all the Robeast and was known for using her magical ability to hypnotize people.
In her origin story, Haggar was a very beautiful and good-intentioned sorceress who uses her magic to help people. Unfortunately, her dark side eventually dominated her personality, though the exact source of her change remains unknown. Haggar’s greatest accomplishment occurred when she divided the fierce Voltron into five different Lions, effectively decapitating him for a long time until the arrival of the five space explorers.
7. Sven
Michael Bell provided the voice for Sven in the animated Voltron: Defender of the Universe series. Sven is a brave member of the scout team sent by the Galaxy Alliance to planet Arus.
The forces of planet Doom captured both him and the other members of the team. After their successful escape from the prison on planet Doom, Sven and the others contacted Castle of Lions. That is where they met the beautiful Princess Allura, who gave them the keys to Voltron’s Lion. Thus, Sven became the pilot of the Blue Lion.
Sven bravely rescued Lance from the grasp of the evil witch Haggar. However, he received serious injuries from the encounter. To give him adequate medical treatment, they transferred Sven to a hospital on another planet. The forces of planet Doom attacked that same planet, so they captured and enslaved Sven.
On planet Doom, Sven joined forces with Romelle, and they escaped the planet together. He and Romelle joined forces again to serve as an advance force for the eventual invasion of planet Doom by the Galaxy Alliance.

Following the events on the planet Doom, Hunk was a strong advocate for the invasion of the planet, which the Galaxy Alliance initially rejected due to inadequate support.
5. Lance
Michael Bell provided the voice for Lance in the animated Voltron: Defender of the Universe series. Lance is the sarcastic hot-headed member of the scout team that Keith led. This scout team received orders to go on a mission. However, the forces of planet doom ruined their mission when they attacked and captured the team.
Upon their successful escape, the team of space explorers crash-landed on the planet Arus and found their way to the Castle of Lions. Once at the Castle, they met Princess Allura. Princes Allura introduced the team to the Voltron Lion Force. Then, Lance received the Red Lion to pilot.
Lance also is a wonderful judge of character, being able to tell whenever he is being deceived.
4. Pidge
Neil Ross provided the voice for Pidge in the animated Voltron: Defender of the Universe series. Pidge is the youngest of the team. He is also the bespectacled genius of the team of space explorers.
After the Galaxy Alliance assigned pidge and his team on an exploration mission, Planet Doom’s forces captured the spaceship. Thus, they wound up imprisoned on the planet Doom. Luckily, Pidge’s idea got them out of their prison, so they were able to hijack a spaceship out of the planet.
After their escape, they soon crash-landed on planet Arus and made their way to the Castle of Lions. In the Castle, they met up with Princess Allura, who drafted them to be pilots for the Voltron Lion Force. Thus, Pidge became the pilot of the Green Lion.
3. Keith
Neil Ross provided the voice for Keith in the animated Voltron: Defender of the Universe series. Keith is the leader of the scout team that the Galaxy Alliance sent on a mission. Unfortunately, the forces of planet Doom truncated their mission.
After successfully escaping from their prison planet, Keith led the team to eventually find their way to the Castle of Lions, where they met the beautiful Princess Allura. Soon after they arrived at the Castle, the Doom forces attacked. Princess Allura gave them the keys to the five Voltron Lions. Thus, Keith once again led them out in his Black Lion.
2. King Zarkon
Jack Angel provided the voice for King Zarkon in the animated Voltron: Defender of the Universe series. King Zarkon is the ruthless King of the Drule Empire and the supreme ruler of planet Doom. He is also a conqueror of worlds, with his son Prince Lotor and his evil witch, Haggar.
King Zarkon killed Princess Allura’s father, King Alfor, in a duel. This victory gave Zarkon access to invade the planet. Afterward, he and his forces successfully decapitated Voltron by making it divide into five distinct parts.
After the arrival of the space explorers and their successful awakening of Voltron, King Zarkon’s long-standing adversary and the defender of planet Arus returned in full force. All Zarkon’s plans to destroy Voltron and the Voltron Lion Force eventually proved abortive. Thus, the planet Arus is now beyond his capture.
1. Princess Allura
B.J. Ward provided the voice for Princess Allura in the animated Voltron: Defender of the Universe series. Princess Allura is the beautiful daughter of the late King Alfor and the only living royalty of the planet Arus. Bio: I am the founder and owner of Wheeljack’s Lab pop Culture and Toy Shop. My vision has always been to reunite customers with their favorite childhood toys and pop culture, triggering fond memories, and reigniting their imaginations. Every day, I work in the “lab” where it’s Christmas 365 days a year. I scour the internet, like when we had the Sears Catalog of yesteryear, for the next great treasure. Then, I await the arrival of the postman as if he were Santa Claus himself and helping collectors worldwide with their own versions of Christmas. Every day as a vintage toy buyer is an absolute joy!
