Introduced in 1987, Robocop took on crime in a dystopian look at the future. Through a blend of satire and science-fiction, the movie highlighted various sources of corruption and crime. This unique blend made the movie a hit, leading to television series, toys, and other merchandise. While the franchise has slowed down over the decades, new content, such as a next-gen video game, continues to be released.
Robocop became a cyborg after failing to take down a vicious gang of criminals. Even though his body was mutilated in the attack, OCP, the company that ran the city, was able to use his corpse. By replacing most of his body with their propriety technology, OCP turned Alex Murphy into a cyborg. They then set him up as part of the Detroit police forces.
After rediscovering his old identity and his humanity, Robocop helped take down the same crime that murdered him. He also helped unveil a corrupt executive within OCP, preventing the release of unfit crime-fighting robots. As the series continued, Robocop continued to protect the city from criminals, drugs, and other cybernetic creations.
The fact that the character came from an R-rated movie did not stop Robocop from appealing to all ages. Kenner Toys picked up the license to create a memorable toy line. Over the years, he has received many collectibles, including resin statues and detailed action figures. Likewise, fans who grew up with the series seek out the rarest and most significant treasures from the franchise.

10. Hot Toys Robocop ED-209 Battle-Damaged Version
Since 2000, Hot Toys has produced collectors-tier toys that aim for screen-accurate appearances. Most of the toys that they produce are created at the 1:6 scale, giving the company plenty of room to add details. In the case of their human action figures, they often include cloth clothing accessories to improve on the realism. However, they also produce toys of creatures and mechanical beings.
When the company turned its focus on Robocop, it decided to create a 1:6 scale of the imposing Ed-209. This machine had been developed by OCP to patrol the streets of Detroit while leaving the door open for military contracts. Unlike the Robocop project, ED-209 functioned with only computer programming dictating its actions. Thus, it was prone to inaccurate assessments, especially when its operating system glitched. Thus, ED-209 was deemed too unsafe for an official release.
Despite the machine’s failings, it was deployed to stand guard against Robocop. Without any organic components, ED-209 was built like a tank and posed a significant threat to the law enforcer. Despite being overmatched in raw strength, Robocop defeated ED-209 by using his wits.
One of the Hot Toys Robocop ED-209 14” action figures were made available for purchase on eBay in 2013. This copy was one of the exclusive Battle-Damaged versions. When the listing closed on May 28, 2013, it ended at $2,500.00.
9. Data East Robocop Arcade Machine (1988)
Since its founding in 1976, Data East has created memorable pinball and video games. The company’s headquarters were stationed in Suginami, Tokyo, Japan. However, they also opened up an American office in San Jose California. Their games frequently appeared in arcades during the 1980s. Even though the company went defunct in 2003, gamers still fondly remember their machines.
One of the arcade cabinets that Data East created was the Robocop arcade game from 1988. To fit the tone of the movie, Data East decided to create a side-scrolling beat-em-up for the crime-fighting robot. Robocop traveled through the streets of Detroit, punching and shooting at enemies that charged at him. The game even included boss fights with other memorable villains like ED-209.
The arcade cabinet’s marque featured images of both Robocop and ED-209 along with the film’s logo. Meanwhile, the sides of the machine featured the image of Robocop stepping out of his police car, which came from the movie’s official poster. Otherwise, this machine featured a single joystick with two buttons on each side to control the action.
One of these rare arcade cabinets appeared on eBay in 2022. This unit was in great condition with all of its parts present. Even its graphics were in great condition. Thus, the listing ended at $3,479.00 on May 09, 2022.
8. Chronicle Collectibles 1:1 Robocop Bust – Prototype
Chronicles Collectibles opened its doors in 2013, with a focus on creating high-end products for pop-fiction properties. By obtaining many licenses, they were able to create some of the most impressive statues for movies and other media. Their products included Star Trek, Jurassic Park, Robocop, and more. Even though the company closed down in the early 2020s, its products are still sought-after by collectors.
While Chronicle Collectibles was in business, they made several scale statues and busts featuring licensed characters from pop culture. Thus, they created scale recreations of robots, dinosaurs, and other icons. This included statues of Robocop characters.
One of these statues was a 1:1 scale bust of Robocop’s head and chest. To create this replica model, the company created several prototypes. Luckily, one of these prototypes was made available on eBay in 2021.
The listing featured an early prototype of the life-size Robocop bust, including a full base. Even though it was a prototype, the designers had painted it to simulate the final product. Thus, Robocop’s silver armor, black shell, and skin featured the proper color.
The listing stated that this prototype was assembled by the creative director of Chronicle Collectibles, Paul Francis. Moreover, Francis had only created two prototypes during the development of this collectible. So, the listing was an ultra-rare chance to purchase this prototype. Even though the prototype was in excellent condition, it had a few issues. There was a small black mark on the left front of the chest. Moreover, there was a small chip in the paint on the top of the helmet.
When this listing closed on January 03, 2021, it was documented with a final sales price of $3,999.99.
7. Tyler Stout Mono Metal Variant 2008 Signed and Numbered
One of the most crucial elements of a movie’s marketing campaign is designing a memorable poster. Even small events for specific theaters enlist artists to design eye-catching posters. Even though these special posters are not the most recognizable, their limited quantities attract the attention of collectors. Thus, they become sought-after collectibles on the second-hand market.
One of the artists that has created a special poster for the Robocop series was Tyler Stout. He rose to prominence by creating screen-printed posters for various movies. His catalog also included posters for bands and snowboard companies. Some of his clients included Pearl Jam, Adidas, Xbox, Tenacious D, and many more. Thus, he was enlisted to create a special poster for a Robocop viewing at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema hosted a Robocop event from December 14th until the 16th in 2008. During those days, the Ritz presented a Big Screens Sci-Fi Classics event featuring Robocop. Thus, they had Tyler Stout design a special edition poster for the event.
Tyler Stout created 35 limited-edition posters for this event. They were 24” x 36” and printed on aluminum sheets. This allowed the art to stand out wherever it was hung.
One of these posters was made available on eBay in 2014. This listing ended on November 23, 2014, with a recorded final price of $4,000.00. While the listing indicated that it was one of the 35 numbered prints, it did not state which number it was.
6. Robocop Complete Tour Suit
Another key element of marketing a movie is touring across the nation. For many movies, actors make appearances on various talk shows and other events. However, Robocop took the campaign even further by featuring the look of the main character. For these unique personal appearances, a special tour suit was utilized.
The studio created a suit that used cast fiberglass to create the shell armor. Otherwise, they utilized various elements to craft a suit that mimicked the film production. The suit came with a black spandex 1-piece undersuit that used a black zipper closure and caul. It also came with a muscle suit with a soft polyfoam endoskeleton that used black Velcro closures.
Otherwise, this touring suit included both left and right shoulder armor sleeves, a hinged elbow joint, a breastplate, and a black plate. To ensure the comfort of the wearer, there was padding built into the suit. Moreover, there was left and right leg armor that was comprised of thigh guards and shin guards. There was also a pair of leather elbow-length gauntlet gloves with cast polyfoam skins and a pair of armored sneakers with a hinge at the mid-foot area for flexibility.
This suit was completed with a fiberglass helmet that featured dark-tinted vacuum foam. This helmet had a plastic visor. Moreover, there was foam lining the interior for the wearer’s comfort.
This unique suit was sold on eBay for $4,000.00 on July 02, 2016.
5. Robocop 2 Promotional Costume
Robocop’s initial success paved the way for a sequel. Thus, Robocop 2 came out in 1990 with most of the main cast returning. Even though Robocop defeated one of the corrupt executives in OCP in the first film, the second film introduced new threats from the company. It also presented a new set of criminals that threatened the streets of Detroit.
Like the first film, the studio needed to promote the sequel with various in-person promotions. Thus, they once again brought out a promotional suit that would make Robocop seem real.
As promotional costumes are made to be walked around, they are not expected to last long. Thus, when it became time to market Robocop 2, the studio made a new outfit for promotional appearances. This outfit was designed for walking around, so it allowed the actor to move around. They also made it look similar to the suit seen onscreen in the movie.
In 2021, Julien’s Auctions placed the promotional costume from Robocop 2 for sale. This costume featured fiberglass elements like the chest, arm, and leg armor. Meanwhile, it also had foam that helped the actor remain comfortable within the suit. This suit also included the iconic, monocular Robocop helmet. On March 31, 2021, this listing closed with a recorded sale of $4,160.00.
4. Data East Robocop Pinball Machine (1990)
Beyond creating beloved arcade cabinets, Data East was well known for its selection of Pinball Machines. For years, Data East created some of the most prolific licensed pinball machines found in arcades around the nation. These machines included themes like Jurassic Park, Lethal Weapon 3, The Simpsons, Star Trek, Star Wars, Robocop, and many more. Now that the company is defunct, their machines have become prized and highly collectible.
Data East created the Robocop pinball machine in 1989, two years after the movie came out. Even though this machine came out later, it made its debut during the ramp-up in marketing for the sequel. Moreover, a cartoon series and the Kenner toy line kept the franchise relevant in 1988. So, the franchise was still relevant when it came out.
The Robocop pinball machine featured a cartoon-style depiction of the titular character on the playfield. Aside from the typical ramps and bumpers, the playfield also featured a depiction of ED-209 in the back. Meanwhile, the back glass featured another artistic depiction of Robocop, Anne Lewis, and Ed-209. ED-209 made even more appearances on the sides of the machine, with two machines surrounding the Robocop logo. Moreover, this machine featured multiple lines from the movie, including “I’d buy that for a dollar”.
One of these machines became available for purchase in 2020. This machine was in excellent, maintained condition. The seller noted that the prior owner had installed LEDs and replaced the display with a Rottendog LED display board. It also had a new plug. When the listing closed on September 24, 2020, it ended at $4,995.00.
3. Sideshow and Chronicle Collectibles Robocop 2 Cain Statue
Sideshow Collectibles worked with multiple companies to produce high-end statues of pop-culture characters. One of these companies was Chronicles Collectibles, which also focused on producing detailed sale models. Their aligned ambitions allowed the companies to jointly produce several memorable statutes.
Despite the lukewarm reception to Robocop 2, the movie still made an impact with its inventive final villain, Cain. Cain began the movie as a powerful leader of a drug dealing ring. After Robocop crippled Cian, he was given a second chance to regain his power by becoming the brain for a new robot. Thus, OCP extracted his brain and installed him into the “Robocop 2” prototype. Even though the scientists believed that they could keep him under control through his drug addiction, Cain went on a rampage at his unveiling. Thus, Robocop faced the powerful robot and destroyed him.
Cain’s robot form was created by the movie’s special effects artists, including the skilled Phil Tippett. Tippett had also been involved in the creation of ED-209 for the original movie. Over his 30 years of work, he helped create special effects for many more hit movies, including Jurassic Park.
When Chronicle Collectibles created their Cain Statue, they closely studied the stop-motion puppet created by Phil Tippet. Thus, they designed a highly detailed and screen-accurate collectible. One of these statues made its way to eBay in 2021. This listing was for one of the special exclusive models that included a remote, an art print, and design document prints. A copy of this statue sold on eBay for $4,999.99 on October 21, 2021.
2. Kotobukiya Toys Robocop ED-209
Operating out of Tokyo, Japan, Kotobukiya has created resin statues of some of the greatest pop culture icons since 1953. The company began by producing dolls from a single shop. However, as they expanded, they began to become the home of high-end collectibles like resin statues and toys. While most of their products focus on Japanese Ips like anime and video game characters, they have also licensed movie characters from the West.
One of these western IPS was Robocop, which became the focus of a 3” scale set of toys. Kotobukiya produced six Robocop figurines boxed in blind boxes in 2006. These figures featured characters from the film trilogy and the Dark Horse Comics. They included multiple iterations of Robocop, but there were also figurines of ED-209 and Cain.
As the years passed, locating unopened copies of the 3” Kotobukiya Robocop figurines became less common. Moreover, both Cain and Ed-209 were rarer finds than the various versions of Alex Murphy. Thus, these figures became more expensive on the second-hand market.
This rarity led to one of these figures selling on eBay for a recorded $7,999.00 on October 13, 2021. While the toy was not in the box, it was still sealed within its bag. Thus, it was in excellent condition.
1. Marvel Comics Robocop #1 CGC grade 9.8
Some of the most sought-after collectibles in any fandom are vintage comic books. Even though comic books are often reprinted, fans treasure the original printings of their favorite books. Moreover, it progressively becomes harder to find copies in pristine shape as the years pass. Foremost, most comic books are thoroughly red, leading to tears and other signs of wear. Otherwise, the paper could be damaged by the elements, water, or other accidents. Finally, the color on the paper will fade with exposure to light and the passage of time. For these reasons, fans will often submit their comic books to grading services like the CGC to help preserve their mint copies.
Marvel Comics introduced Robocop to their line-up in October 1987. The cover for the first issue proudly stated that the character was part man, part machine, and all cop. It also featured Robocop with his partner, Anne Lewis standing in front of the skyline of Detroit. There were also images of ED-209 and various other villains who threatened the city’s peace. This book presented an adaption of the events of the first film. As the franchise continued, Marvel would later introduce a full series that lasted for 23 issues in 1990.
One of these rare comic books made an appearance on eBay in 2022. This copy featured a grade from the CGC, which had evaluated the book to be worth a 9.8. Thus, it was in excellent mint condition. When the listing ended on September 09, 2022, the comic had reportedly sold for $100,000.00.
