1982 Tomy Toy Fair Catalog – Page 58 – Tomytronic Games

Wheeljack’s Lab invites you to explore the 1982 Tomy Toy Fair Catalog. Since catalogs like this were originally distributed at trade shows, the general public rarely saw them. Thus, few could see glimpses of upcoming toy lines and products. Luckily, our high-definition scans now allow you to view the promotional images of Tomy’s Electronic Games and other toys.

The 1982 Tomy Toy Fair Catalog featured various electronic games, including Tomytronic devices and mini arcades. Like many companies in the early 1980s, Tomy embraced the growing video game industry. So, the company set out to create the excitement of arcades at home. They offered a range of small electronics featuring simple yet fun games.

This 1982 Tomy Toy Fair Catalog page promoted the Tomytronic Scramble game, Stock No. 7614. Scramble was an electronic game that scrambled players’ brains. Tomy based it on the original arcade game called Scramble®. There were 5 different levels to maneuver in as the player fired missiles and attacked the enemy. They then destroyed enemy oil tanks, UFOS, missiles, and the enemy space base. This game tested skills and strategies as players attacked the enemy before he destroyed them. It required 4 “C” batteries, not included, or used an AC adapter, not included.

About Our Tomy Toy Fair Catalog Scans

Tomy handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events, such as dealers and retailers, to promote their upcoming slate of products. Each catalog contained information about the company’s newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, companies often included first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, etc. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Tomy Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. These catalogs often featured Tomy’s selection of electronic games, from handhelds to mini arcades. Then, there was the mechanical crane, Armatron. Tomy also became beloved for their Tron and Zoids action figure toy lines.

Tomy used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Tomy only handed these booklets to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Tomy Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
