There were also plenty of licensed products.
Page 2 of the 1986 Coleco Toy Fair Catalog introduced readers to the Furskins, the next evolution of their hit Cabbage Patch Kids. Instead of coming from the Cabbage Patch, these cuddly stuffed bears originated from the Moody Hollow. These big-bellied bee chasers were Coleco’s scaled-down vision of Xavier Roberts’ spectacular entry into the bear trade. So, every wide-eyed Goldilocks and Dan’l Boon from Bar Harbor to the Baja was hot on the unmistakable tracks of their woodsy Furskin boots.

Down in Moody Hollow, the Furskins ran a General Store, the “Things-You-Need-For-Everyday-And-Some-Stuff-Just-For-Fun store. It was a fine store all right, and the Furskins were mighty proud of it. Problem was that the only way to Moody Hollow was nasty ol’ TearBritches Trail. That was a fur piece from the closest interstate. So, no one ‘cept Furskins could find it.
That didn’t bother the Furskins, ‘cause they had ambitions. Most bears ate nuts and berries all summer and snoozed all winter, except for the Furskins. Each of the eight collectible cubbies that made up Coleco’s original Furskins family had its own woodsy ideas ‘bout keepin’ busy.
While Persimmon was home backin’ raisin-rhubarb pie, Bubba was out tendin’ his prize-winnin’ sweet potatoes. Then, there was Junie Mae practicin’ her promenade with Scout, who looked like he was itchin’ to go trackin’. Other Furskins had their sticky paws into everything from bee-keepin’ to baseball.

About Our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans
To promote their upcoming slate of products, Coleco handed out catalogs to toy fair and other event attendees like dealers and retailers. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they were often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Thus, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Coleco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the Sectaurs, who combined insects with superheroes, appeared in multiple catalogs. Likewise, Coleco produced and promoted the Rambo toy line, which focused on the cartoon series. There were also many vehicles and toys from the Starcom toy line.
Coleco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only in these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While Coleco only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
