As LJN traveled from toy fair to event across the nation, they handed out this exclusive catalog to the trade professionals like dealers, retailers, and vendors. These catalogs enticed dealers to purchase assortments and large shipments of toys to stock their shelves. So, they highlighted their greatest and newest toy lines for the season. For years, only those that attended these toy fairs had a chance to flip through the pages of these exclusive promotional products. However, today is your chance to look at some of the first promotional images of LJN’s toys and video games in the past.
Unfortunately, as the 80s came to a close, LJN began to shift their business to focus more on the hit product on everyone’s lips: Nintendo. As the home console market revived video games from the crash of 1983, LJN began to produce licensed games for these consoles. Likewise, their toy department began to lose steam.
Thus, this catalog reflected the turn toward video games for LJN. While they still had a few action figures lines, like Bionic Six and Wrestling Superstars, they dedicated a lot of their efforts to promote their new video games. Likewise, they promoted magical storyteller books and other electronic devices.
Unlike some of our past catalog scans, we are only providing a small section of pages from this catalog. So, you will not find any scans for the Gotcha, Blasters, and Glooper sections. Instead, we invite you to look over the pages for the Enteractive Games, Bionic Six, and Wrestling Superstars.
Wheeljack’s Lab proudly presents HD scans of the 1988 LJN Toy Fair Catalog featuring Bionic Six, Wrestling Superstars, and more.

About Our LJN Catalog Scans
LJN handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events to promote their upcoming slate of products. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These LJN Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company introduced the world to the heroic ThunderCats. They also competed in the motorized 4×4 vehicle market with the Rough Riders. Otherwise, the company created the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons toy line.
LJN used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While LJN only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our LJN Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
