Mattel released the Food Fighters action figure and toy line in 1989. The figures were all different types of food that represented having a ‘food fight’. Mattel produced 14 different Food Fighters figures and three accessory toys. The figures were split into two different categories – ‘Kitchen Commandos’ and the ‘Refrigerator Rejects’.
