We invite you to explore the pages of the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog with our high-definition scans. This catalog was handed out to retailers and other vendors. It helped the company promote its new toy selection and sign up vendors to sell their toys. It also gave some exclusive first looks at its upcoming toys from the year.
The 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog advertised a line of Dragonheart action figures, bringing the fun of the movies home. Featuring the voice of Sean Connery, the film hoped to reinvent the fantasy genre. So, Hasbro created a fanciful line-up of action figures featuring medieval weapons and dragons. Hasbro also had the chance to innovate with new, unique dragon creatures.

The first product on this 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog page was the 61610 Dragonheart Dragon Riding Assortment. Like in the movie, Bowen teamed up for adventure with Draco, featuring gripping talons. Meanwhile, King Einon performs his evil deeds, flying on his monstrous jaw-snapping griffin dragon. Each came with dragon shackles and a lance.
Then, there was the 61614 Dragonheart Electronic Draco. Here, the mythical dragon, Draco, magically came to life. This toy featured Draco’s mighty roar, a light-up heartbeat, and two phrases. It notably required 3 “AA” alkaline batteries, not included, to fully function.
Hasbro also presented information on the 61616 Dragonheart Castle Playset. Players led the charge on this castle fortress, loaded with action. The giant crossbow launched, the wall could break away, and the drawbridge could rise or lower. This playset also included a dragon/prisoner, shackles, a winch crank, and more.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans
To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.
Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
