1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog – 32 – Action Man

We invite you to explore the pages of the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog with our high-definition scans. This catalog was handed out to retailers and other vendors. It helped the company promote its new toy selection and sign up vendors to sell their toys. It also gave some exclusive first looks at its upcoming toys from the year.

Aside from G.I. Joe, the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog advertised the adventurous Action Man action figures and vehicles. These toys had several similarities to the Joes; however, they focused on outdoor activities and action. His adventures allowed children to imagine jet skiing, white water rafting, and many other exciting adventures.

This 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog page began with the 16165 Action Man Base Figure Assortment. First, Operation A.T.A.K. Action Man was equipped to attack and destroy Dr. X’s jungle base. This figure came with boots, a bandolier, and three grenades. Then, there was the Tiger Strike Action Man, who featured genuine body tattoos for Action Man or kids to wear. This toy included a hand-held pistol. The final figure was the Kick Boxer Action man, who took a shot at the hottest sport happening to give Dr. X the boot. This toy was fully outfitted with authentic gloves, a helmet, and boots.

Then, there was the 16160 Action Man Basic Accessory Assortment. This Assortment included the Action Man Adventure Kit, the Action Man Ninja Pack, and the Action Man Swimmer Accessory. Players put the Action Man in all-new adventure situations with these cool accessory sets.

There was also the 12750 Action Man Mission Raft. This toy featured a real onboard motor that powered the boat through water for “ocean-based” missions. Its built-in compartment could stow gear. Notably, this toy required 2 “AA” batteries, not included, to fully function. Also, action figures were sold separately.

The final item on this page was the 27563 Scuba Ski Action Man. This 2-in-1 vehicle could convert for Action Man to chase Dr. X from deep sea to overland. The Scuba Ski Mobile fired specialized underwater missiles. It could then convert into snowmobile mode with pull-down snow tracks and rocket launchers.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
