Wheeljack’s Lab invites you to explore the 1988 Tyco Toy Fair Catalog. Since catalogs like this were originally distributed at trade shows, the general public rarely saw them. Thus, few received the chance to view these promotional images of the company’s toys, such as the prehistoric Dino-Riders.
The 1988 Tyco Toy Fair Catalog dedicated several pages to the Dino-Riders, a toy line that combines futuristic armor with dinosaurs. With their intricate and detailed design, these action figures were a sight to behold and even applauded by museums like the Smithsonian. Accompanying these dinosaurs were mini-figures that represented two different factions: the evil Rulons and the valiant Valorians. The armor these groups placed on the dinosaurs allowed them to arm the creatures for combat as they either dominated or worked alongside them.

Moreover, the Monoclonius had a battering ram head and moveable legs, which struck terror wherever he went.
Next was the Rulons Ankylosaurus with Sting and Full Battle Accessories, No. 9111. This authentic 1/24th-scale Ankylosaurus was a slave to the Evil Rulon Sting, who controlled it with the horrible Brian Box. Its weapons included rotating Cross-Bows and the dinosaur’s own Club-tail.

About Our Tyco Toy Fair Catalog Scans
Tyco handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events, such as dealers and retailers, to promote their upcoming slate of products. Each catalog contained information about the company’s newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, companies often included first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, etc. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Tyco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, Tyco introduced the world to a fanciful prehistoric world with the Dino-Riders. They also provided motorized 4×4 fun with the Stompers vehicles. Another of Tyco’s beloved toy lines was the Incredible Crash Dummies.
Tyco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While Tyco only handed these booklets to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Tyco Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
