1986 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog – M.A.S.K.

Join us on a journey through the 1986 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog, which offered a first look at Kenner’s latest toys. For instance, readers had the chance to view the Star Wars Droids and M.A.S.K. toys.

The 1986 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog highlighted the various action figures and vehicles from the M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Command) line. While Kenner put its name on the map with licensed toys like Star Wars, M.A.S.K. allowed it to create a unique product. This line featured human drivers who came with their associated transforming vehicles. Meanwhile, the members of M.A.S.K. fought against the evil forces of V.E.N.O.M. (Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem).

On this page, Kenner continued the coverage of No. 37450, Volcano Vehicle, an all-terrain van that became a hi-rise tracker. This vehicle did more than just look like a real van, it ran like one too with battery power and multi-tread balloon tires. It was indeed “ILLUSION IS THE ULTIMATE WEAPON” since triggering the rear bumper of the MASK VOLCANO made the body halves split and reveal an armed barrier pod. Then, the pod popped up and swiveled as the vehicle powered forward. This conversion could also happen automatically by allowing the vehicle to run a short distance on battery power.

Positionable lava launchers gave the turret added firepower. Meanwhile, the body halves could be positioned to allow firing toward the front or rear. A figure could man the front cockpit, which had dual red-hot sandblasters that extended through the sunroof. Side exhaust pipes became mini-mortars and metal shredders projected from the hubcaps.

The VOLCANO was truly ready for anything with 2 articulated figures:

  • MATT TRAKKER with a removable LAVA SHOT mask that pretended to project streams of lava
  • JACQUES LA FLEUR, chief of rescue operations for MASK, with a removable MARAJ mask that pretended to allow the figure to camouflage himself and his vehicle.

About Our Kenner Toy Fair Catalog Scans

Kenner handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events to promote their upcoming slate of products. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Kenner Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, their ground-breaking Star Wars toy line often appeared in these catalogs. Kenner also gave players the chance to live out superhero fantasies with the Super Powers action figures. Another of their beloved lines, M.A.S.K., also were featured in multiple catalogs. There were also other action figure lines like Centurions.

Kenner used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Kenner only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Kenner Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
