The 1985 Tonka Toy Fair Catalog displayed the company’s Mighty Cycles selection, often featuring licensed themes. Tonka’s selection of ride-on vehicles allowed children to zoom through both the house and yard. These vehicles often featured themes from popular licenses, like GoBots and the Masters of the Universe.

This 1985 Tonka Toy Fair Catalog page advertised the Gobots Mighty Cycle, No. 6353. It was the 16” cycle for riding into the Gobot adventure. This vehicle featured blow-molded handlebars with futuristic styling. It also had wide-track, long-wearing wheels and an easy-to-adjust, contoured seat. Furthermore, it included safety-grip handlebars and non-slip pedals.
Next was the Masters of the Universe Road Ripper Mighty Cycle, No. 6349. Tonka designed this 16” cycle like the He-Man figure’s Road Warrior vehicle. It featured blow-molded handlebars with a Road Ripper design. The vehicle also included safety-grip handlebars, non-slip pedals, and an easy-to-adjust, contoured seat.
The final product on this page was the Masters of the Universe Mini Mighty Cycle, No. 6340. This was the 9” version with Masters of the Universe graphics. The vehicle featured wide-track rear wheels and non-slip pedals. It also included a contoured seat and easy-grip handlebars.

Tonka handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events, such as dealers and retailers, to promote their upcoming slate of products. Each catalog contained information about the company’s newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, companies often included first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, etc. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Tonka Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, Tonka made waves when they released a line of transforming robots, the GoBots. They also embraced the fantasy world of Willow. The company is also fondly remembered for the Spiral Zone action figures.
Tonka used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
