Page 90 of the 1985 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog continued featuring the G.I. Joe A Real American Hero action figures, accessories, and vehicles. Although Hasbro first introduced G.I. Joe in the 1960s, the toy line had disappeared by the end of the 1970s. Thanks to Bob Prupic’s persistence, his “Operation: Blast Off” led to the revitalization of the line.

This page featured assortment #6079: the Sky Hawk V.T.O.L. (Vertical Take-Off and Landing), whose engines rotated 90⁰ when “combat emergency” take-off was critical. It featured rotating twin turbo-fan jet engines, rotating 20 mm cannons, two removable “Sidewinder” missiles, and twin recessed 30 mm Gatling cannons. Meanwhile, the canopy could open, and footpegs allowed two additional Joes to ride on the skids. Each assortment came with a total of 12 pieces.
Next, Hasbro promoted assortment #6077: the COBRA F.A.N.G. (Fully-Armed Negator Gyro-copter), which swooped down effortlessly on G.I. Joe outposts without being detected. Its 30 mm movable cannon, four removable rockets, and removable negator bomb made this chopper formidable. Most figures could fit inside, while footpegs allowed additional troopers to ride on the skids. Each assortment came with 12 pieces.
Finally, Hasbro promoted assortment #6070: the COBRA A.S.P. (Assault System Pod), a maneuverable vehicle that loomed just over the horizon. Its eliminator cannons could elevate. Meanwhile, the cockpit and turret rotated to follow Joe’s every move. The wheels folded up while the legs folded down for a battle-ready firing position. The tow leg enabled A.S.P. to be pulled by COBRA vehicles with tow hooks. Each assortment came with 12 pieces.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans
To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.
Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
