This 1983 Coleco Toy Fair Catalog page promoted number 2380, The Official GALAXIAN by Bally Midway, the ultimate space showdown. GALAXIAN was a tabletop arcade game that could go home with players. Furthermore, it was three games in one:

  • GALAXIAN pitted the player’s defending ship against an alien attacking formation.
  • HEAD TO HEAD GALAXIAN pitted two players against each other as they commanded their own ships. Both had fighters that broke away to attack and defend. So, the question was: Who will survive?
  • Finally, the third game, Bally Midway ATTACKERS, allowed the player to control the defender ship against a column of advancing aliens. Faster and closer they came, so how long would the ship last?

GALAXIAN played sounds and score like the big arcade version. It also featured “Best Score” and had a brilliant multi-color display.

About Our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Coleco handed out catalogs to toy fair and other event attendees like dealers and retailers. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they were often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Thus, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Coleco Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the Sectaurs, who combined insects with superheroes, appeared in multiple catalogs. Likewise, Coleco produced and promoted the Rambo toy line, which focused on the cartoon series. There were also many vehicles and toys from the Starcom toy line.

Coleco used in-production prototypes in their images as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only in these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Coleco only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Coleco Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
