About Where This Came From: First, this came from a 1970-1990’s Tonka designer executives home. He passed some time ago, this collection includes MANY product samples, packaging prototypes, etc. I will likely miss some and classify them as just basic stock. Some may have generic price tags as he was going to sell them shortly before his death. So this at worst is a standard product, could be something more. If questions ask, I got around 1,000 items in this collection. Comes as shown.

The Item: 22′ x 17″ It is signed but not sure by who, the main illustration is a couple inches smaller than the others. These are all originals, no copies. This appears to be a concept illustration, along with several final control drawings. If you would like to learn more about concept drawings, sketches, rendering and illustrations continue reading.

Initial Art Concept Illustrations or Sketches:

The birth of a toy begins with the initial concept, thought or idea. The people in the “Blue Sky Group” at Tonka provided the general form or thought on paper, called concept sketches in B&W or color renderings. Concept art can be very rough illustrations to start with but eventually are refined to try and capture even the mood or attitude of a character.

Final Concept Rendering:
Concept boards are made to show what we want to achieve from the toy in development.

Control Drawings Technical Rendering:
Technical renderings show what the finished toy will look like from all sides. Control line art drawings are to scale and provide overall dimensions of the final product’s height, width, depth and critical proportions desired for final production.
