1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog – 6 – Batman Forever

We invite you to explore the pages of the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog with our high-definition scans. This catalog was handed out to retailers and other vendors. It helped the company promote its new toy selection and sign up vendors to sell their toys. It also gave some exclusive first looks at its upcoming toys from the year.

Following the release of Batman Forever in 1995, the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog featured action figures based on the film. Unlike the previous two live-action films directed by Tim Burton, this movie had a more campy feel to the action. With neon lights and multiple gadgets, the movie allowed Hasbro to create a playful toy line.

This 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog page presented information on the 64095 Batmobile Power Center Playset. The Batmobile carry case opened into an entire Gotham City playset. The playset presented multi-level excitement with a figure-toppling catapult, a pivoting billboard, and more. It also featured Batman, the Riddler, and Two-Face figures. Moreover, this playset included vehicles like the Batboat, Two-Face’s helicopter, and a launching Batwing.

Then, there was the 64170 Batman Forever Micro Playsets. Both micro playsets, the Batcave Power Center and The Riddler Power Center, could fold up into custom carry cases. Each also included a launching Batman vehicle and exclusive mini figures.

The final item that Hasbro promoted on this page was the 64178 Batman Forever Electronic Bat-Signal Blaster. This toy was a combination of a hand-held weapon and a light-up Bat Signal. In weapon mode, it could fire 3 suction-cup tip darts. Notably, this toy required 2 “AA” alkaline batteries, which were not included, to function fully.

About Our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans

To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.

These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.

While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
