1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog

As one of the largest toy manufacturers, Hasbro generated excitement as it handed out each Toy Fair Catalog. This remained the same in 1996, especially as the catalog featured toys from Kenner and Tonka. These previously independent toy companies became part of Hasbro as the company expanded by acquiring companies in the 1980s. Thus, Hasbro had a treasure trove of toys to show off in the 1996 Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog.
As Kenner made their mark on the toy industry with Star Wars, Hasbro continued to produce and feature these toys. Thus, several pages filled with action figures from a galaxy far, far away. This catalog also featured one of Kenner’s newest toy lines, Disney’s Gargoyles.
Otherwise, Hasbro took note of the growing popularity of superheroes, especially the success of DC’s Animated Universe. Thus, they became the official home of toys of DC superheroes like Batman and Superman. The toys they showed off in the 1996 Toy Fair Catalog also featured the recent movie Batman Forever. Even fans of the Justice League had toys to look forward to in this catalog.
Otherwise, Hasbro strongly presented one of the toy lines that helped them become a powerhouse, G.I. Joe. While the era of A Real American Hero was over, the company was now ready to prove that G.I. Joe was Extreme. The catalog also featured toys from the similarly themed Action Man.
Another major Hasbro toy line was also present in this catalog: Transformers. However, the era of the Beast Wars was in full motion in the 1990s. Thus, the catalog featured Maximals and Predacons instead of Autobots and Decepticons.

About Our Hasbro Catalog Scans
To promote their upcoming slate of products, Hasbro handed out catalogs to attendees of toy fairs and other events. Each catalog was filled with information about their newest toys, even ones still in development. Thus, they often provided the first looks at action figures, playsets, vehicles, and more from their lines. Therefore, they have become valuable and rare collector’s items.
These Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogs featured toys from their beloved lines. For instance, the company was responsible for one of the most popular action figures of all time: G.I. Joe. They also partnered with Takara to bring the Transformers to the Western market. The company also dipped into the fantastical worlds of Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light. After Hasbro acquired Kenner, they also became the home of toy lines like Jurassic Park and Star Wars.
Hasbro used in-production prototypes in their images, as these catalogs were prepared before the lines were released. This meant that the featured toys often differed from the retail releases. Moreover, toys sometimes appeared only on these catalog pages, as they were canceled or never hit retail store shelves.
While Hasbro only handed these booklets out to trade professionals, we have now made them available to all. You can explore the toys featured in these catalogs with our Hasbro Toy Fair Catalog Scans. This is a rare treat since catalogs like these have become increasingly difficult to locate with each passing year.
