Planet of the Apes started as a very popular film produced in the late ‘60s. Mego obtained the rights to the action figure line in 1973. Mego initially launched five figures. The five figures that were included in the first launch were: Cornelius, Zira, Dr. Zaius, Soldier Ape, and the Astronaut. In 1975, five more figures were released. In total 25 figures, vehicles, beasts, and playsets were made.
