Even though Kenner formed back in the 1940s, the company remained small until the 1970s, when they signed on to create the Star Wars toy line. By taking risks with the toy line, they became one of the most important companies in that era. So, they began experimenting with new and original toy lines. While Kenner remained on top during the 80s, their steam eventually began to run out. By 1987, Tonka acquired Kenner then later in 1991, the company fell under the control of Hasbro. While Hasbro kept Kenner’s name alive during the 90s, they fully closed the company in 2000.
