The 1995 Sumo Raphael is a rare Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure released by Playmates Toys as part of the short-lived Sumo Turtles subline. Known as the “Ton o’ Terror Turtle,” Raphael features an oversized sumo wrestler body with a massive belly, thick thighs, veiny arms, aggressive facial expression, and a traditional white-and-blue mawashi with a black harness and “R” buckle. Like Sumo Michaelangelo, he has a removable dark vinyl topknot connected to a Hair-Spinnin’ action feature.
The Sumo Raphael includes Sloppy Sumo Sais, Sumo Blade, Wacky Wooden Sumo Sandals, and a Gold Metallized Kowabunga Coin. Pressing the button in his back shell activates a gear-driven mechanism that spins the removable topknot. His unusual sumo-themed sculpt, specialized accessories, and limited production make this 1995 Playmates TMNT figure a distinctive vintage collectible.
