The 1995 Sumo Michaelangelo is a rare Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure released by Playmates Toys as part of the short-lived Sumo Turtles subline. Michelangelo features a unique oversized sumo wrestler body with a large belly, heavy thighs, molded fat rolls, traditional mawashi loincloth, and a fierce battle expression. His removable topknot is connected to a built-in Hair-Spinnin’ action feature activated by pressing a button on his shell.
The Sumo Michaelangelo includes Hard Lard Nunchaku, Sumo Mace, Wacky Wooden Sumo Sandals, and a Gold Metallized Kowabunga Coin. The Sumo Turtles line was canceled before all four Turtles were released, with only Michelangelo and Raphael manufactured and shipped, making complete examples with the topknot and accessories particularly difficult to find. This unusual design and limited production make the 1995 Playmates TMNT figure a distinctive vintage collectible.
