The 1991 Turtle Communicator, also known as the “Kowabunga Code Device,” is a vintage Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles role-playing toy released by Playmates Toys. Inspired by the Turtlecom from the 1987 animated series, this compact shell-shaped communicator features pop-up antennas, a light-up electronic screen, coded beeps, and a built-in Turtle Code chart for sending secret messages.
The Turtle Communicator includes 8 interchangeable character cards featuring characters such as Splinter, April O’Neil, Casey Jones, and Usagi Yojimbo, along with a belt clip and electronic transmission function powered by AAA batteries. Its interactive spy-themed design and classic animated-series inspiration make this 1991 Playmates TMNT toy a distinctive vintage collectible.
