Clash of the Titans Perseus Hero Son of Zeus and Pegasus the Winged Horse (1980)

The 1980 Mattel Clash of the Titans Perseus “Hero Son of Zeus” & Pegasus the Winged Horse Gift Set was the premium two-pack from the original toy line, combining the 3.75-inch Perseus action figure with his winged companion. The set came in a large horizontal window box with dramatic artwork showing Perseus flying through a stormy sky on Pegasus, making the packaging especially desirable to vintage collectors.

Inside were the standard Perseus figure with silver sword and shield and the all-white Pegasus with its rear-leg squeeze wing-flapping mechanism. Pegasus features a molded saddle area designed to securely hold Perseus, allowing children to recreate the character’s famous flying scenes from the film.

Today, a complete vintage 1980 Mattel Perseus & Pegasus gift set is considerably harder to find than the individual toys. The large cardboard box and cellophane window are prone to crushing, tearing, cracking, and water damage, while Pegasus commonly suffers from yellowing. A clean, complete, original New-in-Box (NIB) set is therefore a highly desirable centerpiece for Clash of the Titans and 1980s fantasy toy collections.
