The 1989 Retromutagen Ooze is a vintage TMNT toy accessory released by Playmates Toys as part of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure line. Each container held approximately 4 ounces of bright green, non-toxic gel inspired by the mutagen that transformed the Turtles. The plastic canister featured mutation-themed artwork and a collectible Pizza Point, while a hidden 2-inch glow-in-the-dark figure—either a pre-mutant baby Turtle or Splinter—was packaged inside the ooze.
The 1989 Retromutagen Ooze vintage TMNT toy was designed for use with several TMNT playsets and figures, including the Flushomatic, Muckman, and the Sewer Playset. The slime could be poured through playset pipes and grates or used with Muckman’s hollow head for additional play effects. Original packaging included warnings that the ooze could stick to rugs, hair, and clothing and damage wood surfaces.
