Rocksteady is a 1988 vintage TMNT action figure released by Playmates Toys as part of the first wave of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toyline. Based on Shredder’s mutant rhino henchman, the figure stands approximately 5 inches tall and is described on his classic file card as a “Mutant G.I. Mauler” and Shredder’s #1 Thug. His file card lists Rocksteady as 25 years old, 5'7" tall, weighing 240 lbs., born at the La Brea Tar Pits, and formerly a human military punk.

The 1988 Rocksteady vintage TMNT figure came with a molded brown-and-yellow weapons rack containing a Retro-Mutagen Gun, Manhole Cover Shield, Turtle Carver Knife, and detachable belt. An important collector variation is the Soft Head Rocksteady, produced during the earliest 1988 runs with a soft, hollow vinyl head, followed by the more common Hard Head version made from solid plastic. These Soft Head and Hard Head variations are important details when identifying and collecting the original 1988 Rocksteady figure.
