The 1990 Transformers G1 Astro Squad is an Autobot Micromaster Combiner team designed around deep-space exploration, rapid response, and defense. The six members are Barrage and Heave, which form a radar rover; Phaser and Blast Master, which form a space shuttle; and Moonrock and Missile Master, which form a rocket transport. The team was released in the final year of the original U.S. Transformers toyline as a six-figure blister-pack set.
Each pair forms half of a space-themed vehicle and can combine with other compatible Micromaster Combiners and Combiner Transports, allowing for numerous vehicle configurations. The Astro Squad is especially notable to G1 collectors as a late-era Micromaster release, with several of its members later reused without changes for Takara's Return of Convoy line in Japan.
