Darkwing is a 1988 G1 Powermaster Decepticon that transforms into a Panavia Tornado GR1 fighter jet. His signature Powermaster gimmick requires the Decepticon engine Throttle to unlock the transformation, and he can combine with Dreadwind to form the larger Dreadwing super-jet. Darkwing comes equipped with two laser-guided electro-kinetic blasters and features the distinctive mechanical design associated with late-generation G1 Transformers.

For collectors, Darkwing is notable for both his Powermaster engineering and a well-known transformation issue: the internal clip in the jet nosecone can develop stress marks and eventually break if the release mechanism is forced. Careful handling is recommended when converting him between modes. The Darkwing mold was later reused for the Japanese Godmaster Hydra, making the 1988 G1 Darkwing an interesting piece for collectors interested in mold reuse and international Transformers variations.
