Shogun Warriors Mazinga (1977)

The Shogun Warriors Mazinga (Great Mazinger) is a highly collectible die-cast robot released by Mattel, based on the iconic Japanese Great Mazinger character originally produced by Popy. The Shogun Warriors release had at least two major variations with significant differences in articulation, accessories, and packaging.

The first Mazinga release is the most desirable version, featuring improved knee articulation, four firing fists, four hard plastic red swords, removable rocket wings, metallic red knee and belt decals, and a detailed three-piece yellow-and-silver rocket wing assembly. It came in a box with a green styrofoam insert, plastic window display, Mattel warranty card, and instruction sheet.

The second release simplified the design with limited knee movement, removed knee and belt decals, two soft vinyl orange-red swords, a simplified all-red plastic rocket wing, and updated box artwork and warranty materials. Both versions feature die-cast metal construction and launching action features.

Due to its multiple releases and accessory variations, the Shogun Warriors Mazinga remains a prized collectible among fans of Great Mazinger, Mazinger Z, Mattel Shogun Warriors, Popy die-cast robots, vintage Japanese toys, and classic mecha collectibles.
