Shogun Warriors Daimos is one of the rarer and more difficult-to-find Mattel releases from the late Shogun Warriors lineup. Unlike earlier flagship figures such as Mazinga and Godzilla, Daimos had a more limited release and is known for its distinctive design and fewer accessories. Standing nearly 2 feet tall, the figure features a launching right fist, bendable elbow, rotating head, four soft yellow leg rockets, and wide rolling foot mechanisms instead of traditional wheel trucks.
Mattel Shogun Warriors Daimos Features
- Right fist launches from an elbow-mounted arm cuff.
- Four yellow soft plastic rockets fire from leg launchers.
- Wide foot rollers are often missing, making complete examples harder to find.
- Daimos missiles are unique and not interchangeable with other Shogun Warriors figures, increasing collector demand.
- Includes original packaging, instructions, and accessories that are increasingly difficult to find.
Differences Between Mattel Daimos and Japanese Popy Version
The Mattel U.S. release of Daimos was modified from the original Japanese Popy design with several cost-saving changes:
Popy Daimos Features Missing or Altered in Mattel Version:
- Removed thigh rocket launchers.
- Removed chest cover that converted into a weapon handle.
- Removed shin guards that transformed into blade accessories.
- Simplified fist box detailing.
- Replaced the detailed weapon-holding right fist with a standard fist design.
- Removed shoulder detail pieces.
- Replaced more colorful original stickers with simpler Mattel graphics.
Despite these reductions, the Mattel Shogun Warriors Daimos has become increasingly collectible, especially in Mint-in-Box (MIB) condition. Its rarity, unique features, and place as one of the final large-scale Shogun Warriors releases make it a sought-after figure among vintage robot toy collectors.
A smaller 5½-inch die-cast Daimos 2-in-1 version (based on the Japanese ST toy) is considered more desirable by some collectors because it features additional action functions, including dual launching fists. The related Daimos Truck vehicle, which includes missile-firing features and two smaller cars, is also a difficult-to-find companion piece.
